I have arranged this incredibly memorable Big Band piece by Billy Maxted as a feature for the Timps and Kit, inspired by the man who made it famous, that spectacular drummer and showman - ERIC DELANEY -who, at the age of 83, is still performing in the UK and further afield. A book by Eddie Sammons about his astonishing career, including contributions from many famous artists and lots of amusing anecdotes, should be available in 27. The City of Lincoln Band inform me that this was one of their most popular items on their visit to Germany.The Timpani and Drum Kit parts will need good players. To get the best effect, a set of three timps is required, although an optional part for two timps is included. The timps and drums are coordinated, so the parts need to be played as written. For those bands with more than two percussionists, there is a third part, which, although optional, would certainly add to the overall effect. Although the Timp & Drum parts are technically demanding, the remainder of the parts are within the capability of most players."I'm sure this item will be a huge success with popular light music audiences everywhere". 'Pandemic 1349' was written during September and October 2016 and received its premiere on Sunday 20 th November at the 40 th Brass in Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead where it received the best new composition/arrangement award.'Pandemic 1349' is a concert work that aims to capture the atmosphere of fear and terror as the plague spreads throughout the city. The cries and screams get louder and reach a chaotic climax, before a calmer and reflective passage takes over - although the chaos and fear never totally leaves as the melodic material is played against the backdrop of what has gone before.London lost almost half of its population during the Black Death, making this one of the single most devastating events in the city's dark history. The outbreak not only shaped the number of inhabitants in London but also changed their mind-sets with many turning to religion - even the English language was to be forever altered.

This stunning piece depicts life in the City of Manchester in the years surrounding the Second World War and the effect these years had on the citizens of Manchester. It's a striking work, with creativity and colour, overflowing with emotion and atmosphere. £29.95By Trevone Bay (Flugel Horn Solo)
By Trevone Bay was composed for Flugel Soloist Zoe Hancock and the Black Dyke Band to celebrate both their Double Champion Victory at the British Open and National Championships 2014 and Zoe's unique achievement in winning the Best Soloist Award in both contests - an accomplishment never done before. The world premier was performed by Zoe and the band at Birmingham's Symphony Hall on February 8th 2015.By Trevone Bay is a lovely lyrical slow melody that utilises the full range and colour of the flugel horn. Starting with an atmospheric opening the soloist performs the main theme, which repeats with more colour in the accompanying parts and solo line. After introducing a second theme from the ensemble, the solo cornets perform the main melody with the soloist enjoying a lyrical counter melody. The piece develops with a tranquil middle section from the soloist that builds for the second theme to return, performed by the ensemble while the soloist soars over the top. Ending as it starts, the piece dies away to leave the soloist performing the opening melodic phrase to a tranquil close.As for the title: Trevone Bay is a beautiful tiny bay in Cornwall, close to Zoe's home town of Roche. Its tranquil waters lead out to the Celtic Sea and provide a picturesque landscape. The views there can be enjoyed all year round but they are particularly beautiful at sunset.

Alexander Borodin (1883 - 1887) was a Russian composer who made his living as a chemist. He was a member of the group of composers called "The Five" (or "The Mighty Handful") who were dedicated to producing a specifically Russian kind of art music. He is best known for his symphonies, his two string quartets, and his opera "Prince Igor". The opera contains "The Polovtsian Dances" which is often performed as a stand-alone concert work.

This enchanting melody is from the fourth movement of Bach's Cantata 140 which was composed in 1731 using the parable of the wise and foolish virgins as the text. The work is beautiful in its simplicity with only three melodic lines, demonstrating Bach's counterpoint at its best. For greatest effect it is suggested that the cornets and trombones play behind the band or to the right and left of the stage.Duration: 4:30
