This beautiful music is from the end of Act 2 of the opera Hansel and Gretel by German composer Engelbert Humperdinck (1854-1921). The duet is a prayer by the brother and sister as they seek the protection of angels before falling asleep on the forest floor. The opera, Humperdinck's most famous composition, is based on the fairy tale by the Grimm brothers, and has libretto by the composer's sister. It was first performed in December, 1893.

This extended fanfare was written for the Royal Air Force Bomber Command Commemorations, 2012. The prototype Avro Lancaster bomber was launched into the skies in 1941 and proved to be a significant factor in winning the Second World War. Its slender silvery outline led it to be known as the Shining Sword.This musical tribute has featured extensively in Bomber Command commemorations especially at the opening of their Memorial, in London's Green Park, a fitting tribute to the 55,573 crew member who lost their lives during WW2.Duration: 2:00

This enduringly popular seasonal song has long been a Christmas favourite, even though the lyrics don't mention 'Christmas' at all. The words were by Dick Smith (1901-1935) and the music by Felix Bernard (1897-1944). The inspiration was reportedly a visit by Smith to Honesdale's (his hometown) Central Park when it was covered in snow. The first recording was made by Richard Himber's Ritz-Carlton Orchestra in 1934. The same year Guy Lombardo and his band, The Royal Canadians, took the song to number 2 in the US Billboard Chart, where it stayed for 9 weeks. It has since been recorded by over 150 artists, the most successful versions being by Perry Como and the Andrews Sisters, both released in 1946.Duration: 4.00

As publisher of van der Beek's transcriptions of classical works Jan de Haan can look back on many years of successful collaboration with the knowledge that there will be many more to come. Unusually cast in a minor key, the main theme provides an interesting contrast to the more melodic major key of the second movement. Christ-Hymn is an expression of response to the ancient Christian hymn quoted by Paul in his letter to the Philippian church (Philippians 2:5-11). After an opening which creates a tone of sadness and quiet suffering, the following music is a joyous expression of the truth that 'He is exalted', 'His name is above all names' and 'Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord'.
