Pomp & Circumstance March No. 4 was completed in June 1907, shortly after his fiftieth birthday. Like the first, it contains an equally impressive 'big tune' in the trio section, but it also matches No.1 in that it has a lively, rhythmic march element to envelope it.Unlike No.1 though, Elgar cleverly superimposes one on top of the other for the final, extended coda. Several attempts have been made to fit words to the main tune, the first of which were by the composer's wife, Alice, for her song The King's Way to celebrate the opening of a road in London. The music was then set to Alfred Noye's Song of Victory before a later attempt to make a patriotic Song of Liberty for World War II by the author A P Herbert.Duration: 4'50"Difficulty: 3rd Section and above

Dance of the he Sugar Plum Fairy needs no introduction as it is one of the most recognisable pieces of music. Tchaikovsky began writing his ballet The Nutcracker in 1891. It received its premiere in St. Petersburg, the following year. The Sugar Plum Fairy is the ruler of the Land of Sweets although she only dances in Act 2 of the work.This arrangement, retitled The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, has the slightest of twists in that it features the four members of the bass section. Composer Debbie Wiseman is one of the UK's most successful female music ambassadors. Throughout the past 20 years, there are probably few people in the UK who have not heard a theme from one of Debbie's many film or television productions. Honoured in the Queen's New Year's with an MBE for services to the music and film industry, she has been awarded honorary fellowships at both the music colleges where she studied, Trinity College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. "Jubilee Gigue" was commissioned to be performed on the Georgian barge as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant. Inspired by the "Gigue" in Handel's original Water Music, the work has a rollicking, upbeat feel and is now newly arranged for brass band by Chris Houlding. Duration: 5.30.
