Castell y Barri was commissioned by the Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band as part of its Post-Covid-19 rejuvenation. Whilst the local Welsh bands have adopted many of the Marches by TJ Powerll as their own, titling the march Castell y Barri provides a nod to TJ Powell's legacy. This new March is a lively March that would be perfectly suited to both the bandstand and contest stage, featuring both modal and atonal harmonies to create an uplifting, yet tradition sounding work.

A Carol Symphony (2nd Mov.) - Victor Hely-Hutchinson - Andrew Baker
This movement "Romance" from Hely-Hutchinson's "Carol Symphony" was used as the theme tune to the BBC's televisions adaption of John Edward Masefield story "Box Of Delights". A superb arrangement for band of a very clever orchestration of popular Christmas carols. An ideal piece for any Christmas concert. Recorded by the Cory Band on their CD 'A Festival of Fanfares & Carols'.

Cinderella (Overture) - Rossini - Julian M Blakestone
Rossini's Overtures are very distinct in their style, fanfares, heavy scoring and more memorably, the themes which he creates. For years, the Brass Band movement has enjoyed his well known "William Tell" & "Barber Of Seville" Overtures, yet the Overture to Cinderella has seemingly gone unnoticed. Now comes an arrangement by Julian Blakeston of this work, which has all the magic and excitement of his more "famous" overtures, although sadly until now has not been at the forefront of the Brass Band program.

From Verdi's Requiem Mass, completed to mark the first anniversary of Alessandro Manzoni's death, an Italian poet and novelist much admired by Verdi. Composer Gavin Somerset has revisited many of the ideas contained within the very popular work written for the inaugural BrassFestUK, The Spirit of Brass two years ago, to deliver once again, an uplifting original work for Brass Bands that will keep both players and audiences entertained. The piece opens with the work's heroic theme which has a genuine feel-good factor throughout, making this year's anthem a sure hit with all bands once again. NB. A Youth Band version is also available which works as a standalone item or alongside the senior band edition.

Fanfare & Funk - Sam Fisher
This original work for brass band is the perfect choice to open a concert of contest programme. At just over three minutes, the music is in two clear sections, depicting the contrasting styles of traditional fanfare and modern funk. After a flourishing fanfare opening, the Cornets and Trombones lead a verse of the opening motif, accompanied by a rhythmically diminished version of the same motif from the Euphoniums and Baritones. This ostinato then leads us into a great entertaining funk section, with each section of the band rising to their feet as the piece builds to an exciting finale that is sure to engage audiences of all ages!

This famous work Rimsky-Korsakov has been wonderfully arranged by Adrian Horn as a real showcase feature for quartet and brass band.
