The film theme was re-invigorated with the release in 2004 of a new version by the relatively unknown Australian vocalist, Eva Cassidy. Unfortunately Eva Cassidy is no longer with us but this song will give generations of new music listeners an insight into her amazing vocal abilities and talent. The world-renowned Cornet soloist, Alan Morrison, has taken the Eva Cassidy version and crafted a wonderful Cornet solo in this award-winning arrangement. Antonin Dvorak composed his first set of eight Slavonic Dances in 1878. The music is lively and overtly nationalistic, although the tunes themselves are all original and are not taken from any Slavic folk dances. Slavonic Dance No.8 is high-spirited and in the style of a furiant, the boldest of Czech folk dances. Although written in a 3/4 metre throughout, Dvorak creates cross-rhythms that shift this metre in to 2/4, which is an important characteristic of the furiant. Duration: 4.10

DEUS INVICTUS - GOD UNCONQUERED (Brass Band Set) - Andrew Mackereth
Deus Invictus draws its inspiration from well-known words from Romans 8: 38-39; 'For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any owers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, can separate us from the love of God'. The music reflects the confidence and certainty of the scripture text while, as in everyday life, trials and tests come along which are reflected in a sequence of musical skirmishes. The work introduces the 19th century hymn 'St Albinus' to a wider audience and also includes references to the tunes 'St Margaret' and 'Rachie'. A setting of the Easter Hymn, 'Christ the Lord is risen today!', is heard followed by a final reprise of 'St Albinus'.

Elgar's five Pomp and Circumstance Marches were written between 1901 and 1930 with number 1 undoubtedly being the most popular of the five.King Edward VII told Elgar that the tune would 'go round the world' if words were fitted to it. Elgar took the hint and included it (with slight rhythmic changes) in his Coronation Ode of 1902, with words by A. C. Benson.Thus was born Land of Hope and Glory which is now, of course, an integral part of the annual Last Night of the Proms, when the audience (with varying degrees of success!) sing the words along to the original march. Now your brass band canenjoy all the pomp and ceremony of proms with this arrangement by Philip Sparke.

The traditional Welsh tune of Crugybar is most commonly associated with words by Howell Elvet Lewis which appear in the Baptist Hymn Book of 1962; 'The light of the morning is breaking, the shadows are passing away'. The Salvation Army Song Book of 1986 lists two further hymns that can be sung to the tune; 'I stand all bewildered with wonder and gaze on the ocean of love' ( W F Crafts) and 'When Jesus from Calvary called me, unfolding its meaning to me' (Will J Brand). This arrangement was made for Martyn Bryant, the long-serving principal cornetist of Bristol Easton Band of The Salvation Army.
