The Seven Divine Properties - Rob Goorhuis

Rob Goorhuis wrote this challenging work for solo euphonium with its marvellous title The Seven Divine Properties at the request of Danny Oosterman and after an idea of Anteun Hoesen. In fact, this piece came about because the Andels Fanfare Corps was going to record a CD in early 2012 exclusively with pieces by Rob Goorhuis. Anteun Hoesen plays the solo part in this piece on the CD.The concept of divine properties features heavily in various ancient religions: these are properties to which man can aspire--through striving towards divine properties one can evolve spiritually and become a better person. Different divine properties feature in various religions. Inthe Christian church, the terms Faith, Hope and Love play an important role. This composition is primarily written from an Old Testament point of view. The chosen qualities are as follows: Simplicity, Strength, Truth, Perseverance and Passion. After a short introduction of the thematic material, the various properties are depicted in musical miniatures.

    Bestefarvise - Øystein Dolmen

"My Fantastic Gramps" is a bubbly piece about an old man.The style of playing must be fresh and youthful throughout the piece.Be aware of the timpani solo and especially tom-toms at first beat in bars 28, 32 and equivalent. The tom-toms must be prominent in the balance. Please make sure that solo cornet plays he articulation (short) excessively at bar 70 (banjo-style). Feel free for some slapstick-mood at bar 86. Be creative! The style at bar 115 must be outgoing and happy, with a lot of joyfulness!

Guess What I Wanna Do - Bernard Trulsrud Seland

Pa den tiden da Guess what I wanna do ble til, tidlig i nittiarene, var jeg sa utrolig heldig a vaere medlem av Oslo Groove Company, et kruttsterkt storband fra miljoet rundt musikkhogskolen. Resultatet ble Guess what I wanna do.

Of Men and Mountains - Edward Gregson

Of Men and Mountains was commissioned by the Netherlands Brass Band Championships for their tenth anniversary contest in Drachten in December 1990. In July the previous year, Edward Gregson and his wife took the Trans Canadian Railway from Toronto to Vancouver. The journey through the Rocky Mountains was the starting point for Of Men and Mountains. Gregson writes that: 'its high peaks and shafts of sunlight breaking through the clouds, its canyons and ferocious rapids made me understand a little more about the majesty of nature and the fragility of humanity. The eternal struggle between man and nature was personified in the building of this incredible railway... hence my title (after Blake).' The work is dedicated to the memory of Eric Ball, who died shortly before the writing of the work was commenced. Of Men and Mountains is in one continuous movement with a duration of approximately 17 minutes. Its form is difficult to describe because of its motivic and accumulative nature, but it is essentially a symphonic tone poem in search of a theme, which eventually comes in its final and complete state in the majestic ending after an ever-increasing paced scherzo. Of Men and Mountains has been selected as the test pieces for the 2023 National Brass Championships of Great Britain at the Albert Hall.

The Seventh Night of July - Itaru Sakai

In Japan, July the 7th is a holiday known as Tanabata, for which large celebrations are held throughout the country. The holiday is based on a legend about a young man and a young woman who are separated by the Milky Way and can only see each other once a year on this night. The Seventh Night of July is Itaru Sakai's musical interpretation of this romantic legend. The flugel horn and euphonium solos during the middle movement represent the two main themes from the legend.

As if a Voice Were in Them - Oliver Waespi

"As if a voice were in them..." runs William Wordsworth's poem about the High Alps. Nature is presented in this poem as an all-powerful and nameless force but also as a creative energy and a mirror on man's soul. It was commissioned by the Swiss Brass Band Association for the 2014 Montreux Swiss Championships. A stunning winning piece for your contests!
