The title refers to the big radio telescope at Jodrell Bank in England. This composition is not exactly a symphonic poem, although it tries to give a musical portrait of eternity and infinity. 'Jodrell Bank' is a real classic of the brass band repertoire with its romantic style, its impressive climaxes alternating with quiet pauses and its sparkling finale. Peter York was above all a composer of film and theatre music and was very active in the world of entertainment and light music. Yet he had one musical hobby: composing for brass band even if he had no links at all with the brass band world. At first, he signed his brass band compositions with the pen name Ivor Gould but later used his own name. Among his most important compositions are The Shipbuilders Suite, Gallions Reach and Jodrell Bank.

Festive - Bertrand Moren
Bertrand Moren originally composed this march for the brass band Concordia of Bagnes in Switzerland, of which he is the conductor. Festive develops a sparkling and playful melodic line over a strong theme in the low brass section. As a French horn player, the successful German composer Manfred Schneider is familiar with brass instruments, so he took on the challenge of writing at a real Concerto for Trombone and Wind Band, which he called 'Poem a la carte'. The composition was commissioned by the JBK Sonthofen wind band. Though the 'misterioso' introduction already features some virtuoso passages for the soloist, the latter really takes off in the energetic allegro. Then comes a lyrical largo and the work ends with a sparkling allegro allowing the soloist to demonstrate true virtuosity.

Stealing Apples - Fats Waller - Reid Gilje
"Stealing Apples" is an old swing-tune written by Fats Waller. Performances by Benny Goodman and his big band made the song very popular.In this arrangement for brass band, the mallet percussion is very essential. Mallet Percussion presents the melody from letter A and is also featured as soli-instruments from letter L to P. These parts can alternatively be played as vibraphone solo.Please be aware of the balance at letter A. Horn and Trombones must play piano but well articulated. Letter D must sound sparkling and fresh with articulated and powerful trombones and cornets (using straight-mute).Make shue that the 8th-notes are not played too dotted two bars before letter G. Almost even 8th-notes accentuated on the start of the slur is a good tip.Watch the balance at letter H. This part have to sound homogeniously.The soloistic Soprano Cornet at letter Q must be played in the style of Benny Goodan. The accompaniment must not be too powerful from letter R to S. Best of luck with the performance!

The tragedy of war is personified in the premature death of one of Britain's most promising composers of his age. George Butterworth was shot in the head at the battle of Somme by a German Sniper and there ended his sparkling contribution to music. Goeorge Butterworth set eleven of A. E. Housman's A Shropshire Lad poems in two cycles from 1909-1911. He composed his orchestral rhapsody in 1911, first calling it "The Land of Lost Content", and then calling it "The Cherry Tree" before deciding on the title "A Shropshire Lad". He wished it to be an epilogue to his song cycle and he wished it "to express the homethoughts of the exiled Lad". This arrangement for brass band was arranged in 2016 to commemorate the centenary of the composers death. This is offered as a full set with parts.
