£34.95Behold the Power of God (Brass Band - Score and Parts)
Behold the Power of God (2010) was written for and premiered by the Cornwall Youth Brass Band in dedication to their Musical Advisor at the time; the late Cornish composer Goff Richards who later described the work as 'a remarkable piece of writing'. The work's title, while implying a religious meaning, actually references Goff's name, with his full name Godfrey translating as 'God-peace' and Richards meaning 'Power'. Two energetic outer sections fall either side of a more lyrical middle section featuring the solo cornet. The perfect opening item at any concert.

As the title suggests, the phoenix was a fabulous mythical bird, who every morning at dawn, sang a song so enchanting that even the sun God, Apollo, would stop and listen. The bird would live for a hundred years, and at the end of its life, would build a pyre, set it on fire and be consumed by the flames. After three days, the phoenix would be reborn from the ashes, to sing once more.This work was commissioned by Clifton and Lightcliffe Band and reflects the difficulties and rebirth of the band to make music once more.Suitable for second section bands and above.

Finale from Symphony No. 2 (The Resurrection) - Mahler, G - Harper, P
One of the most life-affirming pieces of music ever composed, Mahler's 2nd Symphony, subtitled 'The Resurrection', was first performed in Berlin in 1895. Mahler's interest in the mysteries of the afterlife is well-known and is a recurring theme throughout all his nine symphonies. Philip Harper has arranged the final passages of the 2nd Symphony, which begins with a profound hymn set to the words of Friedrich Klopstock-- 'Rise again, yea, thou shalt rise again'.The music contains one of Mahler's magical transitionary passages, building in intensity, before the hymn is restated in all its majesty at the moment of glorious resurrection. The Yellow Submarine - Lennon & McCartney - Catherall, A
The Beatles were at the height of their popularity when this zany cartoon was released in the 60s. The cartoon has become a collectors item now and the music doesn't sound at all dated. Yellow Submarine was the title track and featured their less talented drummer, Ringo Starr.Alan Catherall's fun arrangement was originally a concept piece arranged for the Liverpool Phil. He is riding towards a small town to rob the local bank.

"At the Zoo" is a light and playful piece for the beginning musicians.Different animals and their characteristics are the theme of each movement, and the melody alternates between the different sections of the band to emphasize this. The novel Around the World in Eighty Days by the French author Jules Verne, was first published in 1873. In this story, the Englishman Phileas Fogg sets off for a journey around the world as a result of a bet with his friends at the LondonReform Club. He sets off that very night, together with his servant Passepartout, heading for Egypt, through France, and across Europe, then to Egypt and India, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and to New York where the bet appears to be lost. But they are lucky. On their arrival in London as they have saved a day by crossing the date line they succeed after all.

Composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have once again written music for Disneys sequel film Frozen II after great success in 2013 with Frozen. Many will probably remember Let it Go which became a big hit from this movie. The new movie continue to follow the main character Elsa, who sings her amazing musical number "Into the Unknown" in Frozen II. The song describes Elsa's inner conflict of choice to leave Arendelle or trace the source of a mysterious voice she continues to hear. The song is originally sung by Idina Menzel and the Norwegian artist Aurora and has elements and motifs inspired by Scandinavian herding calls. As always, the music is both magnificent and captivating and will surely be a hit for many years to come.

Composed by Paul Raphael, Explorers on the Moon, the sequel to his 2017 work Destination Moon, was composed in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Moon Landings. It is inspired by the Belgian author Herge and his most famous creation, Tintin. The music uses Herge's story from 1950 almost twenty years prior to the first ever moon landing - following Tintin and his fellow adventurers as they become the first humans on the Moon. This fantastic piece is split into three parts, titled 'Space', 'Nightmare Land' and 'The Journey Home' and is one of the most spectacular contest pieces in recent years.

Gustav Holst (1874-1934) was a British composer. His most famous work is the orchestra suite "The Planets". "Jupiter Hymn" is an excerpt from the fourth movement named "Jupiter". This Young Band arrangement is a good choice to showcase the horn-section of the band. The clarinet-parts in the beginning of the piece may be omitted if the band not require doublings of the brass parts.
