"Kanskje kommer Kongen" ("Perhaps the King is Coming") is yet another example of Knutsen and Ludvigsen's creativity and imagination.The arrangement begins with a short fanfare in the introduction. From letter B, the melody is carried by horn and trombone with a majestic character.Ensure good precision in the accompaniment. From letter C, the style is Latin-inspired, resembling Samba. Alternative percussion solutions are possible here.From letter D, there is a pizzicato effect in 8th-notes, with sonorous melodic lines. The Mexican songwriter Maria Grever, wrote the melody in 1934 ("Cuando vuelva a tu lado") and it became a big hit for jazz-singer Diana Washington. Since that, it has been recognized as a jazz-standard and also featured in several movies. This arrangement was originally written for young, Norwegian singer Angelina Jordan. In this version, the level of difficulty and instrumentation are customized to fit our Young Band-series. Included in the set is parts for both string bass and vocals, but they are not compulsory to perform the piece. In this style, the accompaniment will have a slight swinging feel, while some of the contrasting elements has to be performed without swing(Even).

This is an original piece of music composed by Oystein Olsen Vadsten, inspired by old Norwegian folk dances. "Jumpety Jump" actually started out as a "reinlender" (Norwegian Folk Dance) which origins from Rhinland. The reinlender is well disguised in this arrangement by adding the shuffle- and swing style to it. The piece is first of all meant as a "happy go lucky" tune, but is full of rhythmical and technical challenges. Its put up as a jazz-tune, first presenting the melody, then "improvisasations" by the different instrument groups, before going back to the first theme. The title "Jumpety Jump" refers to the kind of jumping feeling the shuffle groove gives.

This song was released as single record by Swedish pop group ABBA in 1976. The lyrics is about two older veteran talking about the Mexican-American war. In this arrangement, the verse occurs in two different instrumentations. Please be aware of the balance between the melody and accompaniment. A suite in three movements by Ray Steadman-Allen, based on the Norwegian folk song "P? Kl?rfjell der kvelver seg borgi sa rein".The work opens with the melody in the flugel horn, and the theme is then developed and varied with many nuances throughout the work.The 2nd and 3rd movements are played continuously.The piece was commissioned by Manger Musiklag in 1988 and bears all the marks of the composer's masterly instrumentation. Een suite in drie delen door Ray Steadman-Allen, gebaseerd op de Noorse folk song ""P? Kl?rfjell der kvelver seg borgi sa rein"". Het werk opent met de melodie in de bugel, en het thema wordt vervolgens ontwikkeld en gevarieerd met veelnuances door het hele werk. Het tweede en derde deel worden zonder onderbreking gespeeld. Het stuk werd geschreven in opdracht van Manger Musiklag in 1988 en draagt alle kenmerken van de componist zijn meesterlijke instrumentatie.

This Christmas psalm is famous all over the world and especially in Europe. It is likely that the melody is more than 600 years old.Many famous composers have written their own harmonics and versions of the psalm. This arrangement isbased on two different harmonics; The first and third verse is based on the harmonics by Michael Praetorius while the second verse is based on the harmonics of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Fansa da Matasa - Reid Gilje
"Fansa da Matasa" was written for Norwegian Brass Band Felleskorpset Askoy, today named Ravnanger Brass.The piece is divided into six main parts where the last one includes the hymn "Colne";Part 1 starts slowly, but rhythmically where the intensity grows towards a virtuosic Part 2.Part 2 feature a demaning solo for xylophone (bars 55 to 63). A simplified version of this solo is included in the part.Part 3 starts with some declamatory cadences and continue with several solos before it closed with a larger tutti-part.Part 4 has to be played well firmly and rhythmically. The melody is more of a cantabile style.Part 5 is a beautiful and quiet one with a touch of melancholy. (Small notes in Baritone to played if necessary).Part 6 has to be played with a rhythmic drive and intensity. The hymn "Colne" starts at bar 248 and should be played with a sostenuto-style.

Good Night Suite is written for beginning band and suitable for the youngest musicians. The level of difficulty is at lowest grade and the rhythms are equal in all wind parts. The register on each instrument is also customized to each part. Some easy solos appears in some sections and in Mvt. 4 there are different rhythm in the melody and bass parts. The level of difficulty is the same for all five movements. The movements may of course be played as single pieces. When all movements are mastered it's possible to play the suite as a kind of fairytale with simple dramaturgy or choreography. Maybe the whole band can be dressed in their pajamas?
