Originally written for the BBC Choirboy of the Year 2002, James Eager, who was a Chorister at Llandaff Cathedral and attended the Cathedral Choir school. The concept for the song was to combine classical music with a contemporary flavour including a subtle Celtic influence. After being recorded by Llandaff Cathedral Choir and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Richard Phillips arranged it for the world famous Brass Band, YBS. It is hoped that this version as a Euphonium Solo will breathe new life into this ethereal melody. - Darren Bartlett

Into Your Eyes was commissioned by the Nielse ConcertBand (Belgium) to celebrate its tenth anniversary. The band was formed through the fusion of two existing music societies by the late Michel Versavel, who was the combined ensemble's first conductor. The English custom of 'Wassailing' is the seasonal act of singing carols door-to-door and wishing good health. The singers and dancers (often very poor) would do this in the hope of being offered a drink from the 'wassail bowl' - a warm broth of hot ale, fruit and spices; good sustenance for those who were cold and often homeless. It is thought that this carol (composer unknown) was composed c.1850. Duration: 2.30

This popular Christmas carol tells the story of a Bohemian King who braved harsh winter weather to give alms to a poor peasant. This takes place on the Feast of Stephen, the first day of Christmas (December 26th). This legend is based on the life of the historical Saint Wenceslas 1, Duke of Bohemia (907 - 935). In 1853 the English hymn writer John Mason Neale wrote his own version of this tale, setting his words to the melody of a 13th century spring carol "Tempus adest floridum" which had first been published in Piae Cantiones (1582). It is this version that has endured to become the popular carol of today. Duration: 4.30

Dreamsong was commissioned by Geir Ulseth and the Nidaros Brass Band from Trondheim, Norway. After a short introduction, the soloist introduces a rather nostalgic melody, accompanied by the lower brass parts. A fast central section is then played by the band, which leads to a climax. Eventually, the main melody played by the solo cornet and flugel horn returns, overlaid with an ornamented counter-melody from the soloist, who then closes the piece with a short cadenza.Duration: 4.30

Second to None is a perfectly suitable title for this work, though it actually refers to "Nulli Secundus", the motto of the British Corps of Army Music, who gave the commission to Philip Sparke. The piece opens with a fanfare, followed by two short quotes from two of the Corp's own marches and a festive Vivace. A more legato central section creates a nice contrast before the work closes with the opening fanfare. A perfect affair!Duration: 6:15
