Deep River is a spiritual of Afro-American origin. It was used in the 1929 film version of "Showboat". The melody is also sung in the closing section of Michael Tippett's oratorio "A Child of our Time" and was also adapted into the popular song "Dear Old Southland". Origenes (Origins) was commissioned by the European Brass Band Association as a test piece for the challenge section of the 38th European Brass Band Championship in Freiburg, Germany 2015. It is a spectacular piece from the pen of Carlos Cardenas, who belongs to a new generation of composing talent. The clave, a rhythmic pattern, which originally comes from African music, was the inspiration for this innovative piece, all motifs and structures being derived from it. The Society relocated from London to Reading at the beginning of World War Two and the title of this march is derived from the name of the Reading property. Rosehill is a fine march containing all the drama and pyrotechnics that make it suitable for a Whit Friday type march contest.

Visions of Gerontius is a set of variations on a hymn tune which is invariably associated with Cardinal John Henry Newman 's words taken from his visionary poem "The Dream of Gerontius", which deals with the journey of the soul from this world to the next. The stanzas of the hymn are taken from the poem which Elgar set to music in his great masterpiece of the same name, for soloists, chorus and orchestra, first performed in Birmingham in 1900. The dramatic setting of those words provides some of the most memorable moments in the music.
