This Is Halloween is a song by composer Danny Elfman from the 1993 film, "The Nightmare Before Christmas". In the movie it's performed by the residents of the fictional "Halloween Town", which is the films main setting, and introduces thetowns Halloween-centered lifestyle. Differently from the vast majority of Disney movies, in several countries The Nightmare Before Christmas was released only with subtitles, since the movie was originally considered to be "too dark and scary forkids", and was thus released as a film for adults.

£30.00Carol of the Bells - Mykola Leontovych arr. Phillip Littlemore
This popular Christmas piece was composed by Mykola Leontovych around 1916. It is based on a Ukrainian folk chant known as 'Shchedryk', a New Year's carol. However, it was not until after the composer's death in 1921 that it was first introduced to Western audiences, when the Ukrainian National Choir included it on their tour of Europe and the Americas that same year. The film composer John Williams incorporated it into the score for the 1990 film Home Alone and he is credited for bringing it to a wider audience still, although it had been released on Christmas albums by a number of popular artists before that.This transcription for brass band has been adapted from the version created by Robert Prizeman, who arranged it for Libera, the world famous boys choir that he founded. Their unique, enchanting and, some say, heavenly sound delights audiences throughout the world through extensive concerts, recording and TV broadcasts. This brass band transcription introduces this skilled arrangement to a new genre and a whole new audience as well. The 1971 film musical Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory starred Gene Wilder in the title role. The music was written by composer/actor Anthony Newley, with lyrics provided by Leslie Bricusse, for which it received an Oscar nomination for Original Song Score.There are several well-known songs from the film, but perhaps the most famous is Pure Imagination, which is sung by Willy Wonka as the five children and their parents enter the Chocolate Room in Wonka's factory. Das Boot - Klaus Doldinger - Len Jenkins
Traditionally, submarines are referred to as 'boats' rather than 'ships' and the German U- boat (Unterseeboot) was originally a craft primarily designed for surface attack that also had an underwater capability, an aspect that was subsequently developed into the submarine craft that we now know. Das Boot was a 1980's TV series/film that followed the patrol of U-96 and is reckoned by many to be the best (anti) war film produced. Authenticity was achieved by filming in a full size replica with actors who were denied washing or shaving to get the right 'atmosphere' of life in a U-boat. Despite the havoc and distress caused by attacks on Allied shipping by U-boats one cannot but be saddened by the fact that out of 40,000 who went to sea in them, 30,000 never returned. The music is characterised by a theme that has a haunting, deep, sonorous quality penetrated by the sharp, regular 'ping' of ASDIC (sonar) that was used by surface vessels to echo-locate submarines prior to attacking them with depth-charges. This 'ping' may be approximated to, at modest cost, by the percussion section using either a cymbal dome (select an appropriate beater) or a high-pitched wooden 'agogo'. Alternatively, more complex and expensive electronics may be employed. The piece needs to be played with confidence because of its discordant and intentionally sombre nature.

Zat You, Santa Claus - Jack Fox - Len Jenkins
The Christmas song 'Zat You Santa Claus was written by Jack Fox and was first recorded and released by Louis Armstrong and The Commanders in 1953 by Decca Records. The studio orchestra was under the direction of Toots Camarata (who also made the big band arrangement) and Garth Brooks interpreted the song in the feature film "Nenn' mich einfach Nikolaus" (Just call me Nicholas) in 2001. More recently, the song was featured in the film Dr Seuss' "The Grinch" (2018) and sung by Buster Poindexter. This arrangement features the Bass Trombone.

Tiger In The Night - Mike Batt - Len Jenkins
"Tiger in the Night" is a song made popular by Colin Blunstone and Katie Melua, and takes its inspiration from the poem by William Blake.It features in the soundtrack of the 1997 film 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying' which was based on the 1936 book by George Orwell. The title of the book is a reference to 'Keep the Red Flag Flying' but applied to the stuffiness of the British Middle Class. The music for the film was composed by Mike Batt who was also responsible for "The Wombling Song" and "Wombling Merry Christmas" which we also publish for brass.
