The Day Thou Gavest Lord, Is Ended | Ellerton arr. Alwyn Green

This beautiful hymn, masterfully arranged by Alwyn Green for 10 piece Brass Ensemble is thought to have been the work of Cheshire vicar John Ellerton who is said to have written it in 1870.It was used by Queen Victoria as the hymn for her Diamond Jubilee in 1897, but it was also sung a century later when Britain handed over the control of Hong Kong to China, closing a final chapter in the colonial story. It has been described as having a 'beautifully managed geographical progression and structure'.This arrangement has all the serenity and dignity of the original work.Instrumentation1st Trumpet (1)2nd Trumpet (1)3rd Trumpet (1)Flugelhorn (1)Horn in F (1)1st Trombone (1)2nd Trombone (1)Bass Trombone (1)Euphonium (4th Trombone) (1)Tuba (1)Percussion Parts (2):Timpani (1)Cymbal (1)ISMN: 979-0-708127-10-9

Adoration (Cornet Solo with Brass Band) Florence Price trs. Andrew Wainwright

Florence Price was an American classical composer, pianist, organist and music teacher. She is noted as the first African-American woman to be recognised as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. Price composed over 300 works: four symphonies, four concertos, as well as choral works, art songs, chamber music and music for solo instruments. In 2009, a substantial collection of her works and papers that had been previously considered lost was found in her abandoned summer home. Amongst these was this delightful work, Adoration, which had been composed in the 1950s for organ. According to IMSLP.org, the piece "failed to meet notice or renewal requirements to secure statutory copyright with no 'restoration' under the GATT amendments" and therefore is in the public domain. A version for violin and piano by Elaine Fine has become popular. This setting for cornet soloist with brass band has been arranged by Andrew Wainwright. It is also available as a Bb solo with piano here. For more information about the charity please visit https://afamilyforeveryorphan.org/ukraine/ Halyna Ovcharenko has been composing music since she was 11. Many of her compositions of various genres have received international awards, but she discovered the world of brass band music with its specific timbre and huge range of musical colors only recently, in 2022, while composing her Vyshyvanka for Grimethorpe Colliery Band. Halyna comments: "I enjoyed my experience. Since then I have had an appetite to write more for brass bands, and here we are - an arrangement of a traditional English Christmas song which I have done especially to raise money for Ukrainian orphans. Their heroic parents stood for my Lugansk, for our Ukraine and for the whole World. I hope that the World will make these children feel that they are not left alone, giving them love, care and joy." The picture on the front cover was drawn by Victoria Lebed, a Ukrainian girl. This PDF download includes parts and score.
