Giacomo da Lentini was a 13th century Italian poet who was a notary at the court of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II and is said to have invented the sonnet. Lentini's Ballad is based on the famous poem 'Amor e un desio che ven da core' (Love is a desire that comes from the heart). It sounds great as an instrumental work, but there is also an option for a vocal version using the Italian lyrics of the poem, making the arrangement even more special!

Pie Jesu is the famous aria for soprano and orchestra from Gabriel Faure's Requiem, opus 48. Faure (1845- 1924) composed the work in 1887, two years after his father's death and only a short time before his mother passed away. Faure's Pie Jesu is richly atmosphere and peaceful, and Robert van Beringen perfectly captures the essence of Faure's beautiful music in this arrangement for fanfare band.

It is likely that the melody is more than 600 years old.Many famous composers have written their own harmonics and versions of the psalm. "By the Fjord" is written by the Norwegian composer Kjetil Bjornstad and is the most famous song from the musical work "Leve Patagonia" which was published in 1978. The work is written as a modern suite about the Oslo Bohemians Hans Jaeger and OdaLasson sitting in a pram on the fjord a summer night. Odas sister sees the couple on the sea from her window and tells us the story.Kjetil Bjornstad wrote "By the Fjord" in his house outside Tvedestrand early spring 1978. He was initially notfully satisfied and considered disposing it. The "Rakoczi March" (Hungarian March) was the unofficial state anthem of Hungary before Ferenc Kolcsey wrote the Himnusz which is today the official national anthem of Hungary. The first version of this march-song was probably created around 1730 by one or more anonymous composers, although tradition says that it was the favorite march of Francis Rakoczi II. That early version called back Francis Rakoczi II to save his people. It was very popular in the 18th century but in the 19th century the more refined Rakoczi March became prevalent. Hector Berlioz included the music in his composition "La Damnation de Faust" in 1846, and Franz Liszt wrote a number of arrangements, includinghis Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15, based on the theme. Randy Crawford led R&B veterans the Crusaders on the transatlantic hit "Street Life" (1979). A specially re-recorded version was featured in the soundtrack for the films Sharky's Machine and Jackie Brown. The composer Joseph Leslie "Joe" Sample (February 1, 1939 September 12, 2014) was an American pianist, keyboard player, and composer. He was one of the founding members of the Crusaders. but he enjoyed also a successful solo career and guested on many recordings including Miles Davis, George Benson, Jimmy Witherspoon, B. B. King, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, and the Supremes. Sample incorporated jazz, gospel, blues, Latin, and classical forms into his music. This arrangement can be used with a singer, but then need some attention to balance and please take away most melody lines. Electric Bass, Piano and Guitar are optional. If you would like to add an improvisation, please repeat bar 54 -62 without melody as many times you want. (Look at the piano part for chords).

Therefore, it can be used in most settings This Young Band arrangement focuses on the main melody. In the original, the B part is repeated in each variation, but to get three variations (out of four), this repetition has been cut. The first variation should be played as soft as possible, but still with a nice sound. Crescendo to forte(f) and going back to pp should be as a surprise.
