With memorable themes, the composition takes its roots from that of John Williams' various Olympic themes that he has composed over the years. As well as this training band version, there is also a full band version of the work available for mainstream bands. The two versions work as standalone items, or can be performed side-by-side. This lively new Concert March, "Friends of the Band", was written in recognition of those friends and supporters of all Brass Bands whose help financially and in all other ways, are invaluable in the successful running of the organisations. There is a slight hint of the song, "Dear Old Pals, Jolly Old Pals" in the first section which again embeds the feelings all players and conductors have towards our band's supporters. The work was originally composed for the Hook Norton Brass Band, when the composer's wife gave so much of her time encouraging supporters to become friends. This is a great addition to all bands' libraries and a way to pay tribute and thanks.

With the success of the inaugural BrassFest UK events last year and along with it, the commssioned work to celebrate the Brass Band movement, the event this year threw the doors open with a competition to compose the 2018 anthem for bands across the country to enjoy. £35.87A Century of Art (Brass Band) Robbert Vos
A Century of Art was composed for Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht from the town of De Goorn (The Netherlands) for its 100th anniversary in 2022. A version for Fanfare Orchestra was commissioned by the Fanfare Project Orchestra in 2023. The title of the work refers to Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht's 100-year existence and the array of art that has been created in that time. A Century of is a flashy and virtuosic opening work where melodic lines are combined with other surprising compositional elements. You can hear, among some references to some famous brass band test pieces, a quote from Lohengrin by Richard Strauss. A transcription of Lohengrin was used at the 1922 British Open in England, one of the most famous brass band competitions in the world, the same year as Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht was founded. Handel in the Band is a virtuoso set of symphonic variations on one of Handel's best known keyboard dances, the Sarabande from his Suite in D minor, HWV 437, based on the Spanish traditional dance La Folia. Kenneth Downie's work was commissioned by Brass Band Treize Etoiles, for performance at the 2013 Swiss National Brass Band Championships, where it was conducted by James Gourlay. The title is a reference to Percy Grainger's popular Handel in the Strand, and is indicative of the witty and theatrical nature of the music, which is more playful than conventional competition pieces and as such offers different challenges to brass bands as well as being thoroughly entertaining for audiences.Kenneth Downie is one of the most respected and experienced brass band composers.
