The Candle of the Lord (Brass Band - Score only) - Graham, Peter
This arrangement, by Professor Peter Graham, of Joy Webb's timeless song, published in The Musical Salvationist (April 1986), was commissioned by Howard Taylor and the Brisbane Excelsior Band. Professor Graham first used this melody in the middle section of his piece 'Shine as the light' and, from this, has crafted a beautiful and extended treatment of the song.

Tchaikovsky's extremely popular ballet, The Nutcracker, was first performed in December 1892. Earlier in the same year the composer extracted several movements from the ballet to form a concert suite. The first performance of the suite was conducted by the composer and the suite was immediately received with huge enthusiasm.This arrangement was originally made for the GUS Band while the arranger was its Music Director.

French Military March (Marche Militaire Francaise) is the final movement of the Algerian Suite (Suite Algerienne) by Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921). The suite was first performed in 1880 and this stirring march has become a strong orchestral favourite.This arrangement was prepared for the highly successful 1995 tour of Switzerland by the William Davis Construction Group Band (music director, Dr Keith M Wilkinson). It has been performed regularly since that date, always receiving enthusiastic audience acclaim.

New Jersey born composer and musician John Clifford Heed, who was born during the American Civil War was as a cornet soloist and arranger in the legendary band of John Philip Sousa. J.C Heed was also known as the "March Wizard". According to local legend in his hometown, it is claimed that Heed possibly wrote "The Stars and Stripes Forever". Chris Houlding's vibrant arrangement of "In Storm and Sunshine" is written in the style of a vibrant circus march, to be performed as quick as possible! Duration: 5.00. Gustav Holst composed almost 200 works, one being a very elegant and charming fantasy on the old English christmas carols: Good Christian Men, Rejoice; God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen; Come Ye Lofty, Come and The First Nowell. The fantasy called Christmas Day was originally written for mixed choir with orchestra or organ accompaniment. Robert van Beringen has arranged this work for concert band exactly 100 years later. His arrangement can be performed as an instrumental piece or with a choir, making it suitable for any occasion.Duration: 5:45

The traditional Welsh tune of Crugybar is most commonly associated with words by Howell Elvet Lewis which appear in the Baptist Hymn Book of 1962; 'The light of the morning is breaking, the shadows are passing away'. The Salvation Army Song Book of 1986 lists two further hymns that can be sung to the tune; 'I stand all bewildered with wonder and gaze on the ocean of love' ( W F Crafts) and 'When Jesus from Calvary called me, unfolding its meaning to me' (Will J Brand). This arrangement was made for Martyn Bryant, the long-serving principal cornetist of Bristol Easton Band of The Salvation Army.
