This work was commissioned by the Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School in memory of David Morris, a valued member of both the Summer School and Festival of Brass team. The light-hearted, traditional style March is playable by most levels of bands and following its popularity, has been declared the BIBBSS's signature tune. A donation from each sale of this title is being made to fund the 'Dave Morris Bursary Fund', to aid young people that need financial support to attend the Summer School. Course leader, Steven Mead describes the work as, "A really outstanding composition, based on the traditional March format, but with a freshness and excellent thematic material. It is a brisk march in 6/8 that is a delight to play and to listen to."

The convention in the Baroque era would have been to play a piece of this type in the moderate to fast tempo, however at weddings it has become fashionable to play the work at a slow tempo.WEDDING MARCH (from "A Midsummer Night's Dream") By Felix MendelsshonPopularized by Princess Victoria's wedding to Prince Frederick William of Prussia and coupled with the Bridal Chorus for the entry of the bride, this Wedding March is often for the recessional at the end. Prelude to "Te Deum" By Charpentier Another item now popular in its use during weddings for its bright fanfares. This exciting new 22-minute concert suite for Brass Sextet has been composed during the months of lockdown charting the feelings of a nation, with seven movements playable by 6 (or more) players. The music was composed with the intention for players to perform either together live in a small group, in isolation by way of a virtual performance (downloadable backing tracks are available to play along to) and ultimately, to give players something to enjoy as we all miss our brass band families. This concert suite is the perfect addition to all bands' libraries at a time when rehearsals are limited. Several of the movements are already in preparation for a full band edition to be released at a later date: (also available as a digital download worldwide - purchase now & print to play). Castell y Barri was commissioned by the Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band as part of its Post-Covid-19 rejuvenation. Whilst the local Welsh bands have adopted many of the Marches by TJ Powerll as their own, titling the march Castell y Barri provides a nod to TJ Powell's legacy. This new March is a lively March that would be perfectly suited to both the bandstand and contest stage, featuring both modal and atonal harmonies to create an uplifting, yet tradition sounding work.

Huntingtower - Ottorino Respighi - Alastair Wheeler
Whilst best known in the Brass Band world for The Pines of Rome, Respighi wrote Huntingtower in 1932 for Concert (wind) Band for a special concert in memory of John Philip Sousa, who had passed away on March 6 of that year. The work was premiered by the US Army Band. With only around 6 weeks to compose the work, his inspiration for the piece came from a visit to Huntingtower Castle in Scotland. A standard in the wind & military band repetoire, the work is available for Brass Band and is a great alternative to some of the traditional Overtures.

Composed for the Stocksbridge Brass Band of Sheffield, this fast lively concert March gets its name from the club that the band rehearsed in. Written for the opening of the band's concerts at the "Victory Club" which was also home to the Stocksbridge Band Club (now, the City of Sheffield Band Club), where the weekly concerts have grown more and more in popularity.

This special arrangement by Andrew Cook was a commission by Rob Westacott to perform with the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band. The musical Les Miserables is the 3rd longest running show in Broadway history. The superb arrangement captures all the feelings of the original work and was given its debut performance at Parr Hall in Warrington on Saturday 27th March 2010. The work, arranged for one of the greatest cornet players, with one of the world's greatest brass bands, is a must in any cornet soloist's repertoire.

The Big Blow', was a formal record attempt to create the largest brass band in the world. It took place at Butlin's Resort, Skegness on 20 January 27 and in addition to the fun generated by the event itself, it's main goal was to raise money in support of the work of Brass Band Aid, and specifically to provide long-term sponsorship for two children in the village of Adet, Ethiopia.The Music Company (UK) Ltd were one of the Official Partners of The Big Blow, providing the performance piece for the record attempt. As Editorial Director of the company, Andrew Duncan wrote 'Zephyrus' to mark the occasion.Originally presented at the event as 'March - The Big Blow', the published re-titling of 'Zephyrus' provides a more subtle alternative, taking its name from the Greek God of the West Winds.'Zephyrus' is a traditional British brass band march with an interesting African-feel lilt to the trio. This is enhanced by optional percussion instruments including djembi and bongos, which can also be covered by standard drum kit. A positive, upbeat concert march to reflect the sentiment behind 'The Big Blow' record attempt.There were 443 participants in total, including:Soprano Cornets x 12Cornets x 152Flugels x 19Tenor Horns x 68Baritones x 32Euphoniums x 32Trombones x 55Eb Basses x 35Bb Basses x 17Percussionists x 21The Music Company are pleased to continue their support of Brass Band Aid by offering a donation to this worthy charity for every set of this music sold.

Hans Offerdal wrote this march for Furuset skoles musikkorps and Haugen skolekorps for the 17th of May 2007 and here it is now finally in a version for Brass! It has a simple texture that you will have sounding good with not too muchpractice. During rehearsal one should stress the melodic aspect of each part, and that all parts are just as important. Because of its title and duration of appx. two minutes, this march is perfect for presenting the band at various arrangements youtake part in.

Aldebaran - Maurice Forslund - Maurice Forslund
We are pleased to offer this new piece from our colleague, Maurice Forslund, in Sweden. "Aldebaran" is a traditional-style brass band march, named after one of the brightest and largest stars in the Northern sky. (The star is a red giant over 40 times the size of our Sun). The music starts off in a sombre minor key that turns progressively brighter step by step. This sequence is arrested by a brief section featuring a setting of the hymn tune 'Bangor' which dramatically puts the march firmly back into the minor key before setting it up for progression to the finale. This piece is graded in the range 'easy' to 'intermediate' and is well within the capabilities of most bands.
