Sounds of the Season is a unique publication featuring 12 magnificent Christmas carol arrangements for solo instrument or voice and piano by Kenneth Downie, William Himes and Andrew Wainwright. Each solo also comes complete with high quality full orchestral WAV accompaniment tracks, as included in this download. These stunning accompaniments have been mixed using the finest orchestral libraries, including the sounds of the BBCSO Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Orchestra, Spitfire Symphony Orchestra and Royal Albert Hall Organ, giving soloists the experience of performing with a full live orchestra! This re-issue (released in October 2024) replaces the original tracks that were launched in 2021. This resource will be ideal for soloists wishing to carol on a street corner or in a shopping mall while playing the backing tracks through a speaker, or equally in a concert setting accompanied by a pianist. This exquisite arrangement by the Welsh composer Jonathan Mead of the much loved hymn Cross of Jesus has been set here as a euphonium duet although will work well for any Bb instruments with piano. The arranger writes, 'I have always admired the hymns of Sir John Stainer, and when a commission came in from euphonium soloist Micah Dominic Parsons to write a euphonium duet arrangement of Cross of Jesus, I accepted it straight away. The arranger uses Jarod Cooper's popular contemporary worship song King of Kings, Majesty as the basis for the work and the piece seeks to provide a vehicle for the rich timbres of the trombone to be enjoyed by the listener. Inspired by early works for wind band by British composers Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams, this charming concert work is based on an English folk song called As I walked over London Bridge. The arranger Andrew E Lawson writes: 'While I found this folk melody in a set of cello etudes written by Vaughan Williams, it was text that solidified my decision to use this melody, and it is the text that brings some insight into the nature of this folk melody, as well as the nature of the additional original melodies and harmonies throughout the piece.' £7.73Adoration (Cornet Solo with Brass Band - Additional Parts) Price arr. Wainwright
Florence Price was an American classical composer, pianist, organist and music teacher. She is noted as the first African-American woman to be recognised as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. Price composed over 300 works: four symphonies, four concertos, as well as choral works, art songs, chamber music and music for solo instruments. In 2009, a substantial collection of her works and papers that had been previously considered lost was found in her abandoned summer home. Amongst these was this delightful work, Adoration, which had been composed in the 1950s for organ. According to IMSLP.org, the piece "failed to meet notice or renewal requirements to secure statutory copyright with no 'restoration' under the GATT amendments" and therefore is in the public domain. A version for violin and piano by Elaine Fine has become popular. This setting for cornet soloist with brass band has been arranged by Andrew Wainwright. £7.73The Lord Bless You and Keep You (Brass Band Score) Rutter arr. Andrew Wainwright
John Rutter's popular choral benediction is based on Numbers 6:24-26, and has here been arranged for brass band by Andrew Wainwright. It is a setting of a biblical benediction, followed by an extended 'Amen'. Rutter originally scored the piece for four vocal parts (SATB) and organ. He composed it in 1981 for the memorial service of Edward T. Chapman, the director of music at Highgate School, London, with whom he had studied when he attended the school. The arrangement sounds a semi-tone down from the original choral setting although otherwise maintains the same format, so can be performed with choir if they sing down a semi-tone.
