This Carol is of Cornish origin. It was first published in 'Carols Ancient and Modern' (1823) and 'Gilbert and Sandy's Carols (1833). Today the carol is usually presented in the version by John Stainer. My arrangement seeks to mimic that of an early west country folk band, perhaps enjoying an appearance in a Thomas Hardy novel or two!

Christmas Prelude is a festive composition on the Christmas carol O Come, All Ye Faithful. A quiet, march-like introduction, representing the procession to worship, is followed by three verses of the well-known carol: once from a quartet, then shared between the various instrumental groups. A festively embellished section leads to an interlude symbolising the start of Christmas celebrations, before a spectacular conclusion.

An original composition for massed brass bands and brass quintet devised by John Wallace, Tony George and Svend McEwan-Brown. A cross-genre production work, including scene setting, lighting and the spoken word reciting associated poems, De Profundis was given its world premiere at the East Neuk Festival on 1 July 2017 at The Bowhouse, performed by The Wallace Collection, Tullis Russell Mills Band and friends.If you would like to perform this work, The Wallace Collection are able to provide production consultancy and supply the brass quintet elements of the production - if you would like to discuss potential performances, please contact them direct on [email protected] NotesDe Profundis is a large scale brass band performance piece created by John Wallace and Tony George, based upon an original idea by Svend McEwan-Brown. It was developed in sessions with members of the Tullis Russell Mills Band, commissioned and premiered at East Neuk Festival 2017 at The Bowhouse, St Monans, on 1st July 2017.It was supported by Creative Scotland, Fife Council, Toby and Kate Anstruther, Shields and Carol Henderson, Donald and Louise MacDonald.This project remembers and celebrates the lives and music of miners. DescriptionEs ist ein Ros Entsprungen is sometimes sung to the English words "A Great and Mighty Wonder". This tune to the reformation era German carol first appeared in the Speyer Hymnal in Cologne in 1599. This harmonisation of the tune by Michael Praetorius in 1609, one of his earliest publications. Praetorius was, along with his slightly younger contemporary Heinrich Schutz, the foremost German composer of the day, and became famous for his choral music. Much of this was written for multiple groups positioned around the church and conducted by a central conductor, giving a multi-phonic effect similar to the Venetian music of Gabrieli. Auld Lang Syne Brass Band (Score & Parts)
Whereas 'Auld Lang Syne' may be considered the best-known Scottish song ever, yet at the same time it is an obscure one, for there are but few people who know the complete text by heart. After the familiar 'Should auld acquaintance be forgot .....' many people take their refuge to lyrics like 'rum tee dum ta dee ..... lah, lah, lah ........... for auld lang syne'. Even in Scotland only a handful of persons know the entire text and are able to give a correct rendering of it. The current lyrics have been attributed to the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Burns, however, he did not write the whole poem : after he had heard an old man sing the centuries-old Scotch ballad, he wrote it down and added a number of stanzas (1788). Historical research teaches us that the ballad served many purposes, both political and religious. Nowadays, 'Auld Lang Syne' is sung as a Christmas Carol and it is also sung on New Year's Eve at the turning of the year. Apart from that, though, the song is also sung on many other occasions - sometimes with different lyrics, which usually have Love, Friendship and/or Parting as their themes, as these go well with the fascinating melody. In this arrangement a low-sounding solo instrument is central. The harmonization in the accompaniment fits in perfectly with the sentiments this song will evoke.
