DURATION: 4'00". DIFFICULTY: 4th+. Composed for Strata Brass in 2020 as part of their COVID-19 induced, virtually recorded 'A Christmas Carol' (a new suite for brass band lasting around 30 minutes in total), 'A Charles Dickens Christmas' was used as the opening number for the event. The work utilises a number of instantly recognisable fragments of much-loved Christmas carols but acts more as a quasi-premonition into the original Charles Dickens novel which follows. Each section is marked with the point in the story which the music refers to and ends in a celebratory manner. .

Fanfare Prelude on 'Richmond' was written for the inaugural Texas Brass Fest, held at Round Top Festival Institute on 27 May 2023, for the four premier brass bands in Texas - Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio Brass Bands. It is based on the much loved hymn of the church by Charles Wesley, which is also known as 'O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing', the first verse of which reads: O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! For maximum effect it is suggested that cornets and trombones are staged stood around the band, although if this is not possible then traditional band formation will be acceptable. Lead, Kindly Light is composed by the English composer Charles Henry Purday (1799-1885).This arrangement was originally written for Norwegian band Hjorungavag Brass.Purday was appointed conductor of psalmody at Crown Court ScotsChurch in Covent Garden, London, in the 1840's, during the ministry of Dr. John Cumming. Dr. Cumming's church was so popular that it was said traffic could not move in Bow Street and Drury Lane for the throng of carriages making their way toservices. Purday was a fine vocalist and had sung at the coronation of Queen Victoria. He became a music publisher, and was a pioneer in the movement for copyright law reform.

This hymn was given the title "Stracathro," a typical Scottish name after a town in the district Angus. The melody is used with various hymn texts in the Scottish church.
