£25.50Coconut Dance - Traditional - Andi Cook
The Rochdale coconut dance is a traditional Morris dance, often used by the dancers who accompany the rush-cart during the Rochdale rushbearing festival. It probably dates from the 1850s, and though the dancers were said to have half a coconut shell on each knee and in each hand, the term 'coconut' is also used as local slang for the wooden end of a wool bobbin, so nobody can be sure if they were always real coconuts. Written for the Milnrow band's 150th birthday celebrations (1869-2019) this arrangement uses a combination of Caribbean rhythms and a disco groove for a modern take on an old favourite that's impossible to sit still to. Enormously catchy, great fun to play and with something for everyone to enjoy, your audiences will be whistling this one all the way home.

Using the traditional US shaker hymn 'The Lord of the Dance' as the shows main theme, Ronan Hardiman adapted the music to be bursting with life. Mexican Hat Dance - Trad - David Hollins

£35.00Symphonic Dance No.3 - Sergei Rachmaninov arr. Phillip Littlemore
Completed in 1940, the set of Symphonic Dances was Sergei Rachmaninov's last composition. The work is fully representative of the composer's late style with its curious, shifting harmonies, the almost Prokofiev-like outer movements and the focus on individual instrumental tone colours throughout. Rachmaninov composed the Symphonic Dances four years after his Third Symphony, mostly at the Honeyman Estate, 'Orchard Point', in Centerport, New York, overlooking Long Island Sound. The three-movement work's original name was Fantastic Dances, with movement titles of 'Noon', 'Twilight' and 'Midnight'. When the composer wrote to the conductor Eugene Ormandy in late August, he said that the piece was finished and needed only to be orchestrated, but the manuscript for the full score actually bears completion dates of September and October 1940. It was premiered by Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, to whom it is dedicated, on 3rd January, 1941.This arrangement is of the last dance and is a kind of struggle between the Dies Irae theme, representing Death, and a quotation from Rachmaninov's own Vespers (also known as the All-night Vigil, 1915), representing Resurrection. The Resurrection theme proves victorious in the end as the composer actually wrote the word 'Hallelujah' at the relevant place the score (one bar after Fig. 16 in this arrangement). Malcolm Arnold is one Britain's best-loved composers. In 1948 he composed a very short suite for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain - entitled simply To Youth. Seven years later he took To Youth and made some fairly major revisions, including a complete new movement, and the Little Suite for Orchestra was born. The Little Suite for Orchestra follows a very similar pattern to the later suites for brass band, starting with a bold, strident Prelude, which strangely ends quietly before a lovely, lilting, Dance composed in 3/8 time. Finally a rollicking and militaristic March brings the suite to a conclusion. This arrangement for brass band by Robin Norman is sure tobecome a classic in the brass band repertoire.
