The musical building blocks for this work came from my research into 'Faux Egyptian Music' and found how useful it was to use the top four notes of a harmonic minor scale. As my research continued an 'earworm' started to form which ultimately manifested itself as "Toot & Ska Men". I'm sure a bit of influence was taken from the band "Madness" and their song "Night Boat to Cairo" too....

£30.00Abrazo - Lucy Pankhurst
Lucy Pankhurst wrote this piece in response to an open request from Jim Hayes, when he asked for new solos to perform. Abrazo was then selected to feature on his solo CD Dial M for Midnight.The title Abrazo translates as 'embrace', but is also the term given to the dancing frame of the Tango; where the partners change stance by pulling and pushing the frame, yet always remaining in physical contact with each other. This technique is suggested in the music by the soloist breaking away from the band with virtuoso interjections, before being 'embraced' again by the full band.When the cornet soloist eventually breaks completely free in the cadenza passage, the music becomes much more agitated and moves away from the original Tango, transforming briefly into a Flamenco to finish with a flourish.

I have arranged this incredibly memorable Big Band piece by Billy Maxted as a feature for the Timps and Kit, inspired by the man who made it famous, that spectacular drummer and showman - ERIC DELANEY -who, at the age of 83, is still performing in the UK and further afield. A book by Eddie Sammons about his astonishing career, including contributions from many famous artists and lots of amusing anecdotes, should be available in 27. The City of Lincoln Band inform me that this was one of their most popular items on their visit to Germany.The Timpani and Drum Kit parts will need good players. To get the best effect, a set of three timps is required, although an optional part for two timps is included. The timps and drums are coordinated, so the parts need to be played as written. For those bands with more than two percussionists, there is a third part, which, although optional, would certainly add to the overall effect. Although the Timp & Drum parts are technically demanding, the remainder of the parts are within the capability of most players."I'm sure this item will be a huge success with popular light music audiences everywhere". Seasonal 'fun' for the band, (and the audience of course).Robert Childs commented:It begins with yet another rendition of Jingle Bells, "Wait a minute though, is someone out of tune somewhere? Who is that who some of the band are shouting at? Why am I thinking of Les Dawson? ... Back to the music - it's Good King Wenceslas, how did Rule Britannia get in there? ... and I'm sure that was the end of God Save the Queen".After an unadulterated version of O Come, all ye faithful, the final section features Jingle Bells and Good King Wenceslas claiming the last spot together.The piece ends with the well known 'AMEN' cadence - but there's still a little surprise on the last chord! What do the American Joseph Kittinger and the Austrian Felix Baumgartner have in common? They both jumped from over 3km high with a parachute. While Kittinger's attempt on 16 August 196 was from a height of 'only' 31,333 meters, Felix Baumgartner broke this record on 14 October 212 with a breath-taking 38,969 meters. This composition Stratosphere describes the adventure, from climbing into the capsule with help of a balloon, to the short pause in the stratosphere, and the jump, the turbulence during the free-fall descent, and finally the opening of the parachute and the safe landing.

Once upon a time in North America, there lived a mother and her small daughter in a tribe of Ojibwa Indians. The girl suffered from constant nightmares. The mother sought help from Spider Woman known as Asibikaashi, who took care of the children and people on the land. Asibikaashi span a magic web to protect the girl from these evil dreams using a branch from the meadow bent into a sacred circle, with a web woven from cord that had dried on sacred herbs, and with a hole in the middle to let good dreams pass through. The dreamcatcher, decorated with sacred feathers, only allowed good dreams to pass through; the bad dreams were caught in the web. If one awoke early in the morning and the rest of the sun's rays touched the dreamcatcher, the bad dreams would be burnt and turned into invisible stardust.This work contains well-known dream images: the dream of flying, the transcendental meeting with a deceased person, and the dream of running away on legs that won't run. Everything turns out well in the end, as the sun's rays burn off the evil and everything is forgotten.
