Beecher Variations - Stephen Bulla
In this beautiful composition, melodic fragments of the hymn tune Beecher are morphed into a series of variations, showing the melody in various moods from expressive, then quiet and soft, to bright and triumphant in the end. Written as a testpiece in the 4th division for the Dutch Brass Band Championships in 2015, the music features challenging solo parts for cornet, soprano cornet, flugelhorn and euphonium. A great work for the concert stage!

Broken Sword - Kevin Houben
The Broken Sword is one of the five ceremonial swords kept in the Tower of London and is used during the coronation of a new king or queen. Legend has it that an angel broke off the tip of the sword in an effort to prevent an unjust killing. Composer Kevin Houben lets his music retell this intriguing legend. Broken Sword resembles a film score in many ways and will paint vivid images as the band plays its way through the legend. Many different moods create a contrast-rich work that makes for an exciting listening and playing experience every time!

Out of Africa - Barry, J - Barry, D
The great irony of John Barry's Academy Award-winning score for Out of Africa (which also took the Oscar as Best Picture) is that it almost never was - director Sydney Pollack had originally envisioned the film with native African music, going as far as laying the indigenous score down as he was editing. But the weight of John Barry's arguments held sway, and the composer delivered on his intent: a lush, romantic masterpiece for the ages. This romantic film is marked by its many breathtaking views of unspoiled African landscapes. John Barry's main title theme masterfully captures the moods and feels of the film. A terrific arrangement by his namesake!4th section +

Peniel - Ball, E
This work is not intended to actually portray in music the events described in Genesis, Chapter 32, although the varying moods were evoked by a re-reading of the story. He goes forward with his people and becomes reconciled with Esau (Section 12 to the end).Eric BallDuration 9 mins
