This year, the British Bandsman ran a March Composition Competion with the winning enteries judged by Paul Hindmarsh, Michael Fowles, and Aidan Smith. the March, 'The Volunteer' is a pastiche contest March and was the winning entry in the 'Category 1' tier, composed in dedication to all of the volunteers who work tirelessly to make the Whit Friday march contests possible. The march was written with upper section bands in mind and aims be a complete showcase for a band's contest performance. In doing so, the music follows the form and style of contest marches popularised by great march composers George Allan, Thomas "T. J." Powell and William Rimmer. £24.50Echoes of Goff - Gavin Somerset
There is little doubt in anyone's mind that Goff Richards' music enriched the Brass Band repertoire with his colourful and imaginative arrangements and compositions. Composer, Gavin Somerset was encouraged when younger by Goff, to write for Brass Bands after they had worked on an arrangement together. Following the passing of Goff back in 2011, this melodic, yet powerful work that reflected upon two of Goff's popular compositions for band, Pastorale & Country Scene, was composed. Seven years on, this work is only now being released and provides an emotional music tribute, which both players and audiences will enjoy over and over again.

£29.50I Wont Say (I'm In Love) - Alan Menken - Richard Rock
A great piece to give the horn players of your band something to get stuck into. Music from the animated Disney film "Hercules" is based upon the Greek mythology (albeit, slightly altered to be suitable for children!) telling the story of Hercules. This piece is sung by Meg as she realizes she is falling in love with him. The music for the film by composer Alan Menken was nominated for an Academy award, however sadly, was released at the same time at "Titanic" where James Horner's score won instead. Now arranged by Richard Rock as a grand feature for your bands horn section, pleasing to play and to listen too.

£24.50Keep The Rhythm Going - Neil Brownless
Keep the Rhythm Going was written for Abingdon Concert Band during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic as a tribute to musicians around the world who found ways to play together virtually in order to 'keep the rhythm going'. This exciting piece will be a great opener for any concert or contest programme and is available for both brass band and wind band. When performing the wind band arrangement the Cor Anglais, Eb Clarinet and Alto Clarinet parts are optional and can be omitted without affecting the music. £29.50Anchor For The Soul - Andi Cook
Commissioned by The City of Hull Band for their 2019 Brass In Concert programme, this evocative cornet and euphonium duet pays tribute to the trawlermen who lost their lives in three tragedies that took place in early 1968. The work comprises of two seafaring hymns, "Eternal Father Strong to Save" and "Nearer My God to Thee", using the tunes they are most commonly sung to in the 21st. The title of the work was inspired by the Hull seaman's mission, who in their literature describe themselves as an 'anchor for the soul' of the Humber shipping crews and their families.

£29.50The Big Country - Jerome Moross - Andi Cook
The opening of the main theme from 'The Big Country' is as iconic as any western theme ever written. The flourish from the strings (or cornets in our case!) allow your band to show off with detailed playing that is sure to grab your audience's attention from the word go. The film's composer, Jerome Moross was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the soundtrack, but lost to 'The Old Man and the Sea' scored by Dimitri Tiomkin. This arrangement by Andi Cook faithfully recreates the excitement from the main theme that is now known throughout the world. This title has never before been publicly available to brass bands until now and is sure to be a hit with bands and audiences.

£37.50Bedknobs & Broomsticks - Sherman & Sherman - Gavin Somerset
After the success of Mary Popping in 1964, Disney once again had a hit on their hands seven years later with the release of 'Bedknobs & Broomsticks'. Set in 1940, the film told the story of Eglantine Price, a spinster who was learning the ways of witchcraft to help Britain with the War effort. Richard & Robert Sherman provided another excellent score, with memorable songs that now for the first time, are available for Brass Band. This toe-tapping new work features The Old Home Guard, The Age of Not Believing, Portabello Road and, The Beautiful Briny Sea (with added bubbles!). Audiences of all ages will appreciation this title and is a great addition to any concert programme. £29.50Bolsover Castle - Gavin Somerset
This work was commissioned by the Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School in memory of David Morris, a valued member of both the Summer School and Festival of Brass team. The light-hearted, traditional style March is playable by most levels of bands and following its popularity, has been declared the BIBBSS's signature tune. A donation from each sale of this title is being made to fund the 'Dave Morris Bursary Fund', to aid young people that need financial support to attend the Summer School. Course leader, Steven Mead describes the work as, "A really outstanding composition, based on the traditional March format, but with a freshness and excellent thematic material. It is a brisk march in 6/8 that is a delight to play and to listen to."

With a different take on the traditional Christmas medley, this jolly selection takes several well-known Christmas carols written in 6/8 time and puts them in the style of a gleeful jig. Featuring In Dulci Jubilo, On Christmas Night, I Saw Three Ships, Christ was Born on Christmas Day & Here we Come a-Wassailing, the piece is a great workout for the band, whilst audiences will struggle to remain still throughout in this lively piece.

£37.50A Coventry Rhapsody - Karl Whelan
For bands searching for an 'Overture' kind of work to programme into their Christmas concerts, look no further. "The Coventry Carol" dates back to the 16th century and is one of three songs from a nativity play entitled "Pageant of the Shearman and Tailors" which was traditionally performed in Coventry. The carol itself depicts the "Massacre of the Innocents" in the nativity narrative from the "Gospel of Matthew", in which King Herod, orders the execution of all baby boys under the age of two in the vicinity of Bethlehem. In this Rhapsody, Karl Whelan takes the familiar tune and turns it into an impressive showcase for bands looking to give the audience something different and very enjoyable for their festive concerts.
