Commissioned for BrassFestUK 2017 & recorded by the Cory Band, the Spirit of Brass is an exciting, new energetic work that will fit perfectly into any concert, particularly as an opening item. With memorable themes, the composition takes its roots from that of John Williams' various Olympic themes that he has composed over the years. As well as this training band version, there is also a full band version of the work available for mainstream bands. The two versions work as standalone items, or can be performed side-by-side. Selected as 2nd Section test piece for 2003 'Regionals'Wilfred Heaton originally composed Celestial Prospect in the 1940's but, so the story goes, it was rejected by the SA Editorial 'chiefs' as being too modern. The original manuscript was lost for many years, turning up in the 1980's in New York. Heaton re-worked it for the New York Staff Band, and it is now accepted as a classic of the SA 'Festival' genre. £34.95Judd: The Father's Blessing
This music is a treatment of the tune that William Tomer wrote for the words 'God be with you till we meet again'. In recent years, Ralph Vaughan Williams' tune 'Randolph' has often been the preferred choice to accompany these words although this composer was drawn to the original tune. Serenity is the prevailing mood of the piece although there is chance for the band to 'open up' in the link passages.

Symphony for Double Brass on a theme of Purcell 1995 marked the tercentenary of Purcell's death, and my new score Revelation has been written as a tribute to his music and the ornate and confident spirit of his age. There are five major sections: 1 Prologue 2 Variations on a ground bass I 3 Fugue 4 Variations on a ground bass II 5 Epilogue and Resurrection The score uses many features of the Baroque Concerto Grosso, and arranges players in two equal groups from which soloists emerge to play in a variety ofvirtuoso ensembles. It quotes freely from Purcell's own piece Three Parts on a Ground in which he has composed a brilliant sequence of variations over a repeating six-note bass figure. This original motif can be heard most clearly beneath the duet for Cornet 5 and Soprano at the beginning of the 2nd section. There is, of course, a religious dimension to Revelation as the title suggests, and the score is prefaced by lines by the 17th century poet John Donne. His Holy Sonnet paraphrases the Book of Revelation in which the dead are raised at the sounds of the last trumpet. Donne's trumpets are themselves placed stereophonically ". . . At the round Earth's imagined corners" and it is this feature that today's players represent as they move around the performing area. Their final apocalyptic fanfares can be heard at the close of the score, as Purcell's music re-enters in a lasting tribute to England's first composer of genius. £35.62The Lord Bless You and Keep You (Brass Band) John Rutter arr. Andrew Wainwright
John Rutter's popular choral benediction is based on Numbers 6:24-26, and has here been arranged for brass band by Andrew Wainwright. It is a setting of a biblical benediction, followed by an extended 'Amen'. Rutter originally scored the piece for four vocal parts (SATB) and organ. He composed it in 1981 for the memorial service of Edward T. Chapman, the director of music at Highgate School, London, with whom he had studied when he attended the school. The arrangement sounds a semi-tone down from the original choral setting although otherwise maintains the same format, so can be performed with choir if they sing down a semi-tone.
