The composer writes: 'This work is a personal interpretation of the well known hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus. This piece is autobiographical in that it reflects the friendship I have with Jesus, and some of the moods, nature and outcomes of many of those conversations. For example, the Blues section is representative of times where I present my 'blues' to him, and he turns them around. It's very personal and hard to describe the full nature of my relationship, but this music provides a good window. He is certainly my Lord, my Saviour, and my most precious friend.' Masque - Kenneth Hesketh
Masque has been transcribed for brass band from Hesketh's Scherzo for Orchestra, commissioned by the National Children's Orchestra in 1987. The main theme is bravura and is often present, in the background. The form of the piece is a simple scherzo-trio-scherzo, and has colourful scoring (solos alternating with full bodied tuttis) with a dash of wildness!Brass Band Grade 5: 1st SectionDuration: 6 minutes.

From the Sea - Geert Jan Kroon
From the Sea is a three-part work with the theme of land reclamation. The first part (The New Land) expresses the feelings of expectation and tension that come with the brand-new land. The second part (The Old Sea) is a nostalgic look back at the (old) sea. A sea that was sometimes turbulent, but also a source of life. The third part (The Future Land) captures the joy of living on the new land up to the present day. The work was commissioned by the joint music associations of the Noordoostpolder.

DEUS INVICTUS - GOD UNCONQUERED (Brass Band Set) - Andrew Mackereth
Deus Invictus draws its inspiration from well-known words from Romans 8: 38-39; 'For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any owers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, can separate us from the love of God'. The music reflects the confidence and certainty of the scripture text while, as in everyday life, trials and tests come along which are reflected in a sequence of musical skirmishes. The work introduces the 19th century hymn 'St Albinus' to a wider audience and also includes references to the tunes 'St Margaret' and 'Rachie'. A setting of the Easter Hymn, 'Christ the Lord is risen today!', is heard followed by a final reprise of 'St Albinus'.

INDOMITABLE (Brass Band Set) - Herbert Mountain
Herbert Mountain saw 15 marches published by The Salvation Army between 1922 and 1959. Favourites among these include tributes to several 'Citadel' corps like Sheffield, Blackpool and Stockport, and Indomitable dating from 1951. Beginning in the minor and unfolding in contest march style as a cornet soloist dialogues with the full band, the march switches to the major to present the chorus from 'Onward, Christian Soldiers'.
