Cross of Jesus (Duet for Instruments in Bb) John Stainer arr. Jonathan Mead
This exquisite arrangement by the Welsh composer Jonathan Mead of the much loved hymn Cross of Jesus has been set here as a euphonium duet although will work well for any Bb instruments with piano. The arranger writes, 'I have always admired the hymns of Sir John Stainer, and when a commission came in from euphonium soloist Micah Dominic Parsons to write a euphonium duet arrangement of Cross of Jesus, I accepted it straight away. The duet will be ideal for Easter and beyond.' Braveheart - Horner, J - Barry, D
Positively medieval! - Braveheart is history the way it should be told, full of treachery, battle and passion and Mel Gibson in a kilt! Horner's score has a rare quality . . . it is cinematic and the themes have staying power and emotional substance (you can almost feel the cool fog rolling in from the sea and across the Scottish fields).Darrol Barry's sensitive score of the theme is stunning and anyone who has listened to this beautiful music will appreciate the depth of this arrangement.4th section +

An American Tail Overture - James Horner - Gavin Somerset
An American Tail Suite Composed By James Horner For the first time ever, the music from Steven Spielberg's animated story has been arranged into a full suite for brass band. With hits like "Somewhere Out There", "Dreams to Dream" and "Way Out West" all included in the suite, the music of James Horner can set emotions rolling, there is something for everyone to enjoy. With the whole concert suite lasting around 10 minutes, there are optional cuts written when if played, can cut the suite down to 6 minutes, as well as cutting out some difficult parts for lower section bands. With Wild West themes and train journey rides (and lets not forget the spoken lyrics!), this really is musical entertainment at its best

Paint It Black - Mick Jagger & Keith Richards - Len Jenkins
"Paint It Black" (originally released as "Paint It, Black") was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and first released as a single on 6 May 1966. It became the Rolling Stones' sixth number one in the UK and has remained influential as the first number one hit featuring a sitar. The song came at a pivotal period in The Rolling Stones' recording history, a time that saw the song-writing collaboration of Jagger and Richards assert itself as the principal composers of the band's original material. Its lyrics are for the most part meant to describe bleakness and depression and describe the extreme grief suffered by one stunned by the sudden and unexpected loss of wife, lover or partner. It famously plays during the end credits of the film Full Metal Jacket. Beginning in the style of an ironic minuet, which can be by-passed by starting at bar 54 where the heavy rock beat takes over, the piece is interesting and within the capabilities of 3rd or 4th section bands. For those bands with a drummer and one percussionist, an alternative percussion part is provided.

Second Quartet - A Hint of Bach (Brass Quartet) Kenneth Downie
This thrilling work for brass quartet from the pen of Kenneth Downie is based on Bach's Two-part Invention in F major, BWV779. The composer writes: 'I wrote this quartet during the early days of Covid, when only small groups of instrumentalists were allowed to play together. Chamber music is something I enjoyed during my student days - it really is wonderful for developing good musicianship, requiring an awareness of what everyone in the group is doing, and calling for tight ensemble, keen balance and tuning, as well as a uniformity of style in performance. Playing the two and three part inventions of J.S. Bach formed an important part of my piano studies, and since I found myself writing more counterpoint than usual in these quartets, it seemed entirely appropriate to reference the great master of counterpoint in this work. At bar 49, the euphonium quotes from the opening of Bach's Two-part Invention in F major, BWV779, the first keyboard work of Bach that I ever learned, and this phrase pops up quite frequently thereafter. The rising arpeggio figure has a bouncy, positive feel to it, and I really enjoyed developing this material. I hope that players and listeners will share the fun as they rehearse and perform the quartet.'
