DURATION: 3'00". DIFFICULTY: 3rd+. 'The Royal Green Jackets' is a march composed for BD1 Brass as part of a set of music inspired by the British astronaut Tim Peake. . Following his graduation from the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst in 1992, Peake became a member of the Royal Green Jackets - a former infantry regiment of the British Army, later to become The Rifles - serving as a Platoon Commander before commencing his flight training. 2 years later in 1994, Peake received his Army Flying Wings and spent 15 years serving in military operations in the likes of Yugoslavia and Afganistan. . In 2009, Peake was selected as a European Space Agency astronaut and completed his basic training in November 2010.

DIFFICULTY: 1st+. DURATION: 5'00". 'To a New World' was composed for the Foden's Band's winning performance at the 2023 Brass in Concert Championships, held at The Glasshouse, Gateshead where the band performed a set of music inspired by the Disney classic, 'Aladdin'. This was the finale to the band's programme, beginning in the frozen wastelands where Jafar has banished Aladdin and Abu, before they are rescued by the Magic carpet and escape back to Agrabah, battle Jafar once more, defeating him and taking Jasmine's hand in marriage. The music itself uses a number of quotes from songs within the original soundtrack, notably 'Prince Ali', 'One Jump Ahead' and 'A Whole New World'.

As a French horn player, the successful German composer Manfred Schneider is familiar with brass instruments, so he took on the challenge of writing at a real Concerto for Trombone and Wind Band, which he called 'Poem a la carte'. The composition was commissioned by the JBK Sonthofen wind band. Though the 'misterioso' introduction already features some virtuoso passages for the soloist, the latter really takes off in the energetic allegro. Then comes a lyrical largo and the work ends with a sparkling allegro allowing the soloist to demonstrate true virtuosity.

The Pohutukawa Stands - Peter Meechan
The earthquake that hit Christchurch in February 2011 took the lives of 181 people. Being asked to write this work in their memory was an honour, but I didnat want it to simply be performed as a memorial. I wanted to compose a work that conveyed the sadness and grief for those lost - a work of remembrance - but also a piece of music that represented peace, hope and strength.The title and dedication come direct from the commissioners of the work, Woolston Brass Band. The Pohutukawa Trees stay standing and secure, defiant of the earthquake, in Christchurchas aGarden Citya, and the Pohutukawa tree also has special significance beyond their physical appearance.According to Maori mythology, the spirits of the dead travel to Cape Reinga on their journey to the afterlife to leap off the headland and climb the roots of the 800 year old Pohutukawa tree and descend to the underworld to return to their traditional homeland of Hawaiiki-a-nui, using the Te Ara Wairua, the 'Spirits' pathway'.The Pohutukawa Stands is dedicated to the lives lost in the Christchurch earthquake.

This piece is a good concert-opener or a character piece.Beware of the changing articulations in this piece, the contrast between marcato and legato is a vital part of the character of the piece.

"All the best!" These words expressing good fortune are often heard at occasions such as birthdays, or other changes life may bring. Johan de Meij's first symphony The Lord of the Rings is based on the trilogy of that name by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book has fascinated many millions of readers since its publication in 1955. The symphony consists of five separate movements, each illustrating a personage or an important episode from the book. This transcription for brass band, arranged by the composer has the following movements: I. GANDALF (The Wizard), IV. JOURNEY IN THE DARK (The Mines of Moria and The Bridge of Khazad-D m), V. HOBBITS. The symphony was written in the period between March 1984 and December 1987, and had its premiere in Brussels on 15th March 1988, performed by the The Royal Band ofthe Belgian Guides under the baton of Norbert Nozy. In 1989, the symphony The Lord of the Rings was awarded a first prize in the Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in Chicago, and a year later, the symphony was awarded a grant by the Dutch Composers Fund. In 2001, the orchestral version was premiered by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.

The Mexican songwriter Maria Grever, wrote the melody in 1934 ("Cuando vuelva a tu lado") and it became a big hit for jazz-singer Diana Washington. Since that, it has been recognized as a jazz-standard and also featured in several movies. This arrangement was originally written for young, Norwegian singer Angelina Jordan. In this version, the level of difficulty and instrumentation are customized to fit our Young Band-series. Included in the set is parts for both string bass and vocals, but they are not compulsory to perform the piece. In this style, the accompaniment will have a slight swinging feel, while some of the contrasting elements has to be performed without swing(Even).

£134.99Sinfonietta: The Town Beneath the Cliff - Philip Sparke
Sinfonietta: The Town Beneath the Cliff was commissioned by Holmestrand Ungdomskorps from Vestfold in Norway. The work is in four movements: a spectacular fanfare followed by a 'moto perpetuo'-like toccata. The third movement Hymn is a beautiful piece of music allowing the band to show its musicality and sound. The last movement Scherzo Finale opens with a short phrase from Holmestrand's own 'town song' Holmestrandsangen, which comes again in full at the end of the piece, accompanied by a florid passage based on the opening theme.
