Earthquake Brass Band (Score & Parts)
On average, about eight thousand (mostly light) earthquakes occur worldwide each day. Composer Jan de Haan has always been fascinated by this natural phenomenon. Earthquake portrays the beautiful South-American peninsula, Isla Iberi which lies directly on a major fault line. The peace and tranquility is shattered by a major tremor and the terrified people flee in fear. In addition to showing the earthquakes destructive power, Earthquake also conveys the courage and faith of the industrious people of Isla Iberia, as they energetically start the reconstruction of their beloved residential area. Earthquake is dedicated to the memory of all victims of the devastating Asian tsunami which occurred on 26 December 2004. 18:00

Since his first successes in the 1990s the amiable popular singer Frans Bauer has grown into a megastar in the Netherlands. In Germany, too, he has a great number of fans. Although he is derided by many because of his schmalzy style, Frans Bauer sells CDs galore, attracts full houses everywhere and can be viewed in his own reality soap on television. In 2004 he was even awarded a Gouden Harp (Gold Harp), which is the most important prize within Dutch music. It is presented to artists and composers who have promoted Dutch light music in their own unique way during their career. The cheery singalong Heb je even voor mij (Got a Minute for Me) is a great top hit: a winner in every pub and at parties. Nightlights was commissioned by Chris Jeans and Don Collins for Youth Brass 2000, to be used as part of their programme at the 2019 European Championships. Written during January 2019, Nightlights received its world premiere by Youth Brass 2000, conducted by Chris Jeans with Siobhan Bates as soloist, at the 2019 European Brass Band Championships in Montreux, Switzerland.Originally written as a Tenor Horn solo, this version for Tuba was arranged for and is dedicated to Dr Joanna Ross Hersey.Nightlights is intended to illustrate a winter's evening looking out across Lake Geneva from Montreux. Tiny lights appear beneath the mountains from faraway homes and vehicles, flickering in the distance and shimmering in the reflections on the water. Tiny, blinking nightlights against the inky blue of the clear sky. Thousands of stars shine above, blurring the boundaries between land, water, and the heavens into a sparkling ether. Transfixed, the bustle of sounds and lights from Montreux seems a lot further away than it is in reality. Eventually, each little light blinks out, one at a time, leaving the chill of the cold night air and an empty sky.Duration: 4.30

It is believed that Gabriel Faure wrote his Pavane as a piano piece in 1887, describing it as 'elegant, but not otherwise important'. He began work on the orchestral version a few months later, and scored it for modest forces, with the intention of performing it at a series of light Summer concerts that same year. At the behest of his benefactor, Elisabeth Greffulhe, he added a four-part choir, but it is rarely heard with the chorus these days. From the outset, the Pavane enjoyed great popularity. The music flows delicately and gracefully. A pulse beats gently and constantly beneath the arching melody lines, with elegant harmonic shifts and turns before the briefest of dramatic episodes. Calm is restored and the work draws to a tranquil conclusion. Duration: 6:00

£35.00Three Christmas Portraits (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Doe, Philip
A delightful set of three Christmas carols expertly adapted by Philip Doe. This suite of three pieces opens with Christmas Day, a dainty and light opening that shows the more delicate aspects of brass playing. The centre piece is a new version of The Coventry Carol, which open with a first verse rendition for quartet before developing a more baroque-style treatment that sits over an ostinato bass line. The movement reaches its climax with flourishes from the cornets leading to a rendition of the carol at fortissimo, and treated with slightly altered, harmonies before coming to rest with the opening quartet delivering the tierce de Picardie. The final movement is I Saw Three Ships, with handy interjections from several other carols, making a rousing climax to a enjoyable set of three Christmas portraits. Duration: 7.00

Torsion (Score & Parts) - Simon Dobson
Torsion was commissioned by the Leyland Band and first performed on 23 January 2010 at the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass, Manchester, by Leyland Band conducted by Jason Katsikaris.This colourful and dynamic work is the most personal and ambitious that Simon Dobson composed during his residency with the Lancashire brass band. The dictionary defines torsion as the state of being twisted and the composer interprets this as the imagined dis-torsions and con-torsions of Time, Light and Sound in three contrasting movements. Simon Dobson fuses the traditional brass band sound with drive and energy of pop and funk jazz with optional digitally distorted 'echoes' providing added aural confusion at the points of climax.Although composed as a substantial concert work, Torsion would also make a challenging test-piece for contesting brass bands in the elite divisions.

HAPPY LAND (Cornet Solo with Brass Band Set) - Terry Camsey
This composition is a very challenging one for the soloist and requires the accompaniment to be subservient at all times. The soloist will find it helpful to, generally, adopt a very light and playful style. As a young aspiring cornet player, the composer was influenced by a number of soloists of that day, one being Del Staigers of the Goldman Band in the USA. Many of the musical motifs reflect that influence and it is hoped that this solo will, in turn, inspire the many aspiring cornet players of today.

£29.99Just a Closer Walk With Thee, Trad, arr. Joseph Knight
This is a light concert piece which has been arranged in the trad jazz style. It's a little bit of New Orleans for Brass Band. It starts with the traditional slow statement of the theme and then cornets followed by the lower section of the band stating the theme in a faster jazz style. Then there are the 'solo' sections, which are in fact features for different sections of the band. Every section gets its time in the spotlight. Great fun and a great concert piece for any venue.
