The Day Thou Gavest Lord, Is Ended | Ellerton arr. Alwyn Green
This beautiful hymn, masterfully arranged by Alwyn Green for 10 piece Brass Ensemble is thought to have been the work of Cheshire vicar John Ellerton who is said to have written it in 1870.It was used by Queen Victoria as the hymn for her Diamond Jubilee in 1897, but it was also sung a century later when Britain handed over the control of Hong Kong to China, closing a final chapter in the colonial story. It has been described as having a 'beautifully managed geographical progression and structure'.This arrangement has all the serenity and dignity of the original work.Instrumentation1st Trumpet (1)2nd Trumpet (1)3rd Trumpet (1)Flugelhorn (1)Horn in F (1)1st Trombone (1)2nd Trombone (1)Bass Trombone (1)Euphonium (4th Trombone) (1)Tuba (1)Percussion Parts (2):Timpani (1)Cymbal (1)ISMN: 979-0-708127-10-9

The Lord Bless You and Keep You (Brass Band) John Rutter arr. Andrew Wainwright
John Rutter's popular choral benediction is based on Numbers 6:24-26, and has here been arranged for brass band by Andrew Wainwright. It is a setting of a biblical benediction, followed by an extended 'Amen'. Rutter originally scored the piece for four vocal parts (SATB) and organ. He composed it in 1981 for the memorial service of Edward T. Chapman, the director of music at Highgate School, London, with whom he had studied when he attended the school. The arrangement sounds a semi-tone down from the original choral setting although otherwise maintains the same format, so can be performed with choir if they sing down a semi-tone. PRAISE TO THE LORD (Brass Band Set) - Andrew Mackereth
Written for the 2003 tour of Canada and USA by Bristol Easton Band of The Salvation Army, this set of variations provides the whole band with a stern examination of technical and musical aptitude, whilst engaging the listener from beginning to end. The commission given to the composer was to create a set of variations with a similar framework to that of Edward Gregson's 'Variations on Laudate Dominum'. As in the famous Gregson work, the theme (Lobe den Herren) is not heard in its entirety until the final section when the majestic tune provides a fitting and stirring conclusion to the music.

Lord of the Flies - Gauthier Dupertuis
The title of this work by Gauthier Dupertuis refers to the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, published in 1954. Lord of the Flies is intended to be a small symphonic poem describing different episodes of the book: the despair of the children stranded on the island, the use of the unifying conch and symbol of democracy, the adventures, and the formation of the camp and finally the savagery of the clan of Jack which undeniably leads to chaos. The finale is mysterious and half-tone, imbued with both the relief of having been rescued, and a deep sadness linked to the tragic events that have occurred on the island. All the main themes and elements developed in the work come from the idea "d-e-f", exposed from the first bars. The orchestration is intended to be variable in geometry and avoids the main technical difficulties related to the instruments. However, the composer wanted to find as many colors as possible and avoided confining himself to too "simple" harmonies.Lord of the Flies: a piece accessible to most brass bands.
