Excerpts from Finale from Symphony No.4 (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Tchaikovsky, Peter Ilyich - Gordon, William
Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote his fourth symphony in 1877 and 1878. It was first performed in the latter year conducted by Nikolai Rubenstein. Despite initial critical reaction, the symphony has become a staple of the orchestral repertoire and is one of the most frequently performed late 19th century symphonies. In the exciting finale, Tchaikovsky incorporates a famous Russian folk song, 'In the field stood a birch tree' as one of its themes.

Happy Land (Cornet Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Camsey, Terry
This composition is a very challenging one for the soloist and requires the accompaniment to be subservient at all times. The soloist will find it helpful to, generally, adopt a very light and playful style. As a young aspiring cornet player, the composer was influenced by a number of soloists of that day, one being Del Staigers of the Goldman Band in the USA. Many of the musical motifs reflect that influence and it is hoped that this solo will, in turn, inspire the many aspiring cornet players of today.

Chick Corea is an American pianist and composer of Sicilian and Spanish descent, whose long career in jazz music continues to this day. A member of Miles Davis's hand in the 1960s, lie formed his own band Return to Forever in the 1970s before establishing himself as one of the greats of modern jazz. La Fiesta was composed in 1972 and included on Return to Forever's debut album. The music is in one in a bar waltz time and switches between Latin carnival style and jazz waltz, with stand-up solos for cornet, baritone and tenor horn. This arrangement was performed as part 01 the Cory Band's winning Brass in Concert programme in 2012. The publisher of this works suggests that it should be playable by championship section bands.

The Maple Leaf Rag is an early ragtime musical originally composed for piano by Scott Joplin. It was one of Joplin's early works, and became the model for ragtime compositions by subsequent composers. It is one of the most famous of all ragtime pieces. As a result Joplin was called the "King of Ragtime" and the work gave Joplin a steady, if unspectacular, income for the rest of his life.

Ever since the first performance in April 1742 in Dublin, Ireland, Messiah has been the iconic Christian oratorio. It is a work of genius with lyrics skillfully taken from the Bible by Charles Jennens and timeless music by G. F. Handel, and has been at the top of the Western musical canon for close to 300 years. For unto us a child is born comes roughly halfway through Part One of the oratorio and is one of its most popular choruses, being the prophecy of the birth of a Messiah (Jesus) found in Isaiah chapter nine. DURATION: 8 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 1st+. That Promised Land was the culmination of 5 years of my personal interest in spiritual music since performing Michael Tippett's wonderful Oratorio 'A Child of Our Time' at the RNCM. Tippett's work combines original material, with music inspired and based upon spirituals, whilst all of the major 'chorus' sections are direct settings of those tunes. This was a work that had stuck with me for a long time, and one I tried to emulate in a smaller form with this work. The title is a quote from one of the verses of the spiritual 'Deep River'. This piece was composed for Jaren Hornmusikkforening as part of their programme for the 2018 SIDDIS Championships held in Stavanger, Norway. .
