The title of this march, published in 1962, refers to the pin originally given to the mothers, but now also the fathers, of cadets entering The Salvation Army's Schools for Officer Training.It includes the song, 'Mothers of the Silver Star' (words by Arch. R Wiggins, music by George Marshall) which was specially written for the first occasion at which Silver Stars were presented. Also included is a Salvation Army flag song, 'Yellow star, and red and blue' also written by the aforementioned Wiggins and Marshall.

Backdraft - Hans Zimmer
The hit movie Backdraft is one of the earliest soundtracks by award-winning Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer. Starring Kurt Russell amongst many other stars the film plays a dignigned homage to the highly dangerous life of fire workers. Behind the racing engines and blaring sirens the soundtrack is easily lost in the film but is highly charged and a fitting backdrop to the action on screen. Mixed Bag Brass Band (Score & Parts)
Mixed Bag' stands midway between a collection and a hotchpotch. It is a colourful compilation of four completely different pieces, each with its own specific character. The first part is called 'Tanguillo' : as its name suggests, this Spanish dance is related to the Tango. In the next part, 'Maybe next time ....' a repeated bass line (Passacaglia) can be heard, first solo, but thereafter gradually the other instruments join in. The third part forms a huge contrast - did the former part have a Baroque atmosphere, 'Rock Hard' seems to have come directly from the Rock 'n Roll era, reminding us of stars such as Bill Haley and Elvis Presley. The finale is a cheerful, inciting movement called 'Gypsy Dance'. 07:30
