Each movement of this suite is linked with a quotation from the Bible; 1. Water's edge ('And Jesus went forth...by the sea-side...' Mark 2 v.13). 2. Seascapes ('His dominion shall be from sea to sea' Zechariah 9 v.10). 3. Seafarer's song ('Sing unto the Lord...ye that go down to the sea' Isaiah 42 v.10). The first two movements are based on the composer's own settings of poems by Miriam Richards. The third movement (generally lively in characater) introduces a broad hymn-like melody not associated with any words in particular but nevertheless evoking a spirit of exaltation and praise.

Partita for Solo Euphonium and Brass BandThe Four Elements was written for Gary Curtin and the Black Dyke Band as part of a recording project of Martin Ellerby's brass band music. The composer, having previously written a large scale concerto for the euphonium, decided to write something much more concise though still enabling the soloist to display flair and lyricism in equal measure. Each movement is approximately 2 minutes long, a set of miniatures, based on the four elements of earth, water, air and fire, and are given their Latin manes of terra, aqua, aer and ignis in the score. The term partita is used to indicate that the work is a collection, or suite, of pieces and in keeping with former examples, uses both song and dance forms to provide suitable musical structures.Duration: 8.00

A View at the Zoo Brass Band (Score & Parts)
Everybody is familiar with the zoo. Remember all those animals? Big ones, small ones. Water dwellers, air-bound birds, long legged hoppers, creeping bugs. All animals seem to have their own peculiarities. Now, Carl Wittrock (who also composed the world-famous master piece 'Lord Tullamore') invites you to join him in a musical exploration of the animal kingdom. An invitation you must not reject! In his 'A view at the Zoo', Wittrock presents ten distinctly different animals as compositions of music. You may be familiar with some of those animals, such as the white swan or the butterfly, but there are also more exotic breeds, like the lion, the monkey, or the elephant. The composition as a whole is built around a structure of shorter fragments reminiscent of 'The Paintings Exhibition' by Moussorgsky. The parts are decorated with recognizable illustrations of the different animals. At each composition, Wittrock looks for something that can fascinate both musicians and listeners. 1359: Festival March - Coastal Celebration (Sam Creamer)Coastal Celebration was commissioned in 2019 by Nambour Salvation Army Band for the Corps' 125th anniversary celebrations. Nambour was the birthplace of The Salvation Army's work on the Beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Firring with this theme are subtle tributes to iconic Sunshine Coast landmarks, referenced with small phrases of popular secular melodies intertwined with the main tunes What a faithful God (S.A.S.B. 378) and All through the years (S.A.S.B. 826).1360: He's always been faithful (Craig Woodland)This meditative selection is an arrangement of the song by American singer and record producer Sara, Groves, He's always been faithful. The words express the joy and thankfulness in having a relationship with Jesus and knowing his presence in life. The melody and motifs of the traditional hymn, Great is thy faithfulness (S.A.S.B. 26), are heard throughout.1361: Christ's living water (Dean Jones)Christ's sacrificial love has been beautifully portrayed through the imagery of water in many songs, none more so that the skilfully crafted words we find in the chorus of I know a fount (S.A.S.B. 197), written by Oliver Cooke. To enhance the sentiments expressed, the pure sounds derived from Handel's Water Music fit perfectly in terms of music and imagery.1362: March - Fear Not! (Avelan Ntsiete)The Salvation Army continues to proclaim its music ministry in all corners of the world and, with this item under review, we introduce a new composer, originally from Congo Brazzaville, Central Africa. Avelan Ntsiete is currently a Bandsman at the Lilas Corps in Paris but has previously served in the Congo Brazzaville Territorial Band. This march, in traditional format, was written for an evangelistic campaign in Kindamba, where civil war has brought upheaval to the area and uncertainty for the local Salvationists. The composer was part of a small brass group which travelled for over 24 hours by truck and on foot to reach Kindamba and bring encouragement to the Salvationists within that community.

The Ancient Greeks believed that there were four elements that everything was made up of: earth, water, air and fire. This theory was suggested around 450 BC, and was later supported and added to by Aristotle. The idea that these four elements - earth, water, air and fire - made up all matter was the cornerstone of philosophy, science, and medicine for two thousand years.Air was considered a pure element, but in fact the air that's all around us is made up of a variety of gasses. Of course, in music, air has a different meaning; a beautiful song-like melody or tune and Aristotle's Air is just that.The work was commissioned by and written for The Cory Band as part of their winning 2015 Brass in Concert programme The Four Elements of the Universe, being premiered at the contest at The Sage, Gateshead, on 15th November 2015. The work was awarded the Cyril Beere Memorial Trophy for the Best New Composition or Arrangement.

An original composition from Lucy Pankhurst and Winner of the 2011 John Golland Award, receiving its premiere at the RNCM Festival of Brass that same year.It is a complex, energetic and invigorating major work for brass band, and one which rightly demands attention through its intricate scoring, impact-making effects and bubbling brilliance!Comments from the composer on the work's title and its multi-purpose influence and inspiration upon her composition:"The phrase "Alchemists' Fire" has several possible connotations:Firstly, Alchemists' Fire is a magical weapon featured in the Dungeons & Dragon role playing game. It is a potion, so can be used to splash, throw or pour onto a target, dealing fire damage if it hits successfully.The second possible meaning comes from an historical source, where it was also known as Greek Fire, from which the D&D element takes its influence. This was an incendiary weapon used by the Byzantine Empire, typically used in naval battles to great effect, as it could continue to burn on water. It provided a technological advantage and was responsible for many key Byzantine victories. The manufacture of this 'fire' was kept a deadly secret; so much so that the formula was eventually lost and contemporary scientists and historians can only speculate at what the chemical make-up might have been.The final implication is a much more visual and sensory concept; that of the fire actually used by the Alchemist in his work - raging, dangerous and white-hot. Some sections of the work reflect the idea of 'magic' and ongoing experiments, some successful, some failing dangerously, in a cacophony of pops, fizzes and explosions amidst furious heat and brief moments of calm as the fire slowly cools, sizzling with residual components and elemental energy."
