A Slaidburn Festival Overture - Stoll, B

Commissioned through a BBC Fame Academy Bursary, this piece is one which is enjoyed and admired by both performers and audiences the world over. Fairfield Fanfare (expanded version) by Roxanna Panufnik is a 4-minute work for youth and mixed choirs, brass band and orchestra. Originally commissioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fairfield Halls, Croydon in 2012, the opening chords are based on all the alphabetic note names from FA-ir-F(#)-i-E-l-D, heralding a flourishing section of hustle and bustle that is the city of Croydon today.This expanded version includes brass band and choirs, with a setting of the text from Psalm 127. The expanded version was commissioned by the London Mozart Players, who premiered the piece on 30 June 2016 at Fairfield Halls, Croydon.This edition is the full score in C (EP 72880). It is available for sale as part of the Peters Contemporary Library. The performance material can be hired as well as a transposed full score, if preferred.

Smoke Sketches is Daniel Hall's first original work to be published in the Faber Music Brass Band Series. Daniel is one of the most gifted of the rising generation of composers writing for brass bands. Smoke Sketches was composed at the invitation of Brass Bands England for the Intermediate Section of the 2017 National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. This colourful, jazzy suite draws inspiration from the ancient art of gazing into smoke from fire to find stories through the act of divination. Into the Blaze suggests someone briskly fire-walking, barefoot, with unexpected sparks fizzling from the ground. A Lonesome Ember capturesthe fleeting life of a small ember, beginning insignificantly and gradually evolving into a larger being before disappearing into ash, while Spark of Light bristles with life and energy. Band Grade 3/4, duration 8 minutes.

£132.50Viking Saga - Ray Farr
"Viking Saga" was inspired by my conducting engagements in Norway in the 1980s. Among them was a visit to the Flekkefjord Pike Korps who asked me to write a piece for them. I had just written "Adventures in Brass" which was very popular, particularly with younger bands, so I decided to pursue the creative energy. My teacher, at that time, was Professor Edward Gregson who encouraged me to develop my ideas into a full-scale work. The piece received a few performances in this version but neither I, nor my teacher, were satisfied so the manuscripts lay dormant. In the summer of 2002 a band from Switzerland- Cordula Brass Baden and Christoph Moor, who had played the piece under mydirection in the Swiss National Youth Band, commissioned me to finish the work and make the changes that, I felt, were needed. In 2016 the Tonsberg Wind Band, from Norway, commissioned a wind band version for their performance in the Norwegian Championships held in Trondheim 2017.
