A lilting arrangement of an early American gospel song, 'Marching to Zion'. The words of the chorus provide the title of the arrangement; 'We're marching to Zion, that beautiful city of God'.

Judd: Clear Skies

A 'timeless' cornet solo from the pen of Eric Ball, utilising the charming, lyrical melody of the same name. Its traditional theme and variation construction and its relative popularity should not lull the soloist into believing it to be easy - for soloist or band.

A three verse setting of the hymn tune Colne.

Judd: Come and get Saved

This fantasia is based on the old Salvation Army song, 'Never can tell' which includes the words, 'You never can tell when the Lord will call you...Come and get saved and happy be'. The piece has many different and contrasting moods but is generally light-hearted and amiable like the straightforward message of the song and its genial melody.

Judd: Comfort and Joy

A pure, unadulterated 'big band' style jazz arrangement for brass band of 'God rest ye merry gentlemen'.

Judd: Concert Etude

Although firmly established in the trumpet repertoire, this exciting work has also been featured by cornet, tenor horn, trombone and even tuba players!

Judd: Concert Piece For Trombone

Guilmant was an organist of the Church of Trinity, Paris and was also a staff member at the Paris Conservatoire. Concert Piece (also known as Morceau Symphonique) consists of a slow prelude followed by a quicker, more brilliant section, the two linked by a cadenza. A lyrical element persists in the second section and there is a brief return to the theme of the prelude following which the music is brought to a fiery and exciting conclusion.

Robert Redhead's 'test piece' originally written for the ISB's 1994 coast to coast tour of Canada. Featured here as a 1st section test piece for the European Championships, Redhead explores through the various sections of a brass band the scriptural idea that we are all part of 'the body of Christ' - Corpus Christi. Judd: Cristo Redentor

'Cristo Redentor' (Christ the Redeemer) is the Portuguese name of the unmistakable statue that overlooks every part of the vibrant Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. The composer was inspired to bring these images to music, creating various atmospheres to portray the diverse scenery. The melodies used, 'Lord I lift your name on high', 'Ochills' and 'There is a redeemer' are used to express the overall power of the love displayed for all in the outstretched arms of Christ the Redeemer.
