California (Brass Band - Score only) - Soderstrom, Emil
In retirement, Emil Soderstrom moved to California and honoured his new home with this light-hearted but demanding march. The composer has said that the motif given to the upper cornets in the second strain stands for 'Ca-li-for-nia'! His love of startling chromatic passages is evident in the 'break up' strain of the trio section which is marked by a sudden key change and a fragment of the song Sunshine in my soul today, a reference to the Californian weather.

The traditional Welsh tune of Crugybar is most commonly associated with words by Howell Elvet Lewis which appear in the Baptist Hymn Book of 1962; 'The light of the morning is breaking, the shadows are passing away'. The Salvation Army Song Book of 1986 lists two further hymns that can be sung to the tune; 'I stand all bewildered with wonder and gaze on the ocean of love' ( W F Crafts) and 'When Jesus from Calvary called me, unfolding its meaning to me' (Will J Brand). This arrangement was made for Martyn Bryant, the long-serving principal cornetist of Bristol Easton Band of The Salvation Army.

Turn the Beat Around Brass Band (Score & Parts)
In the nineties, the Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan recorded a sparkling version of Vicki Sue Robinson's disco classic Turn the Beat Around. She gave the song a catchy Latin beat, and with this new impulse, it was a worldwide hit. With the sentence from the song text "Love to hear percussion" in mind, Peter Kleine Schaars incorporated a compelling percussion solo in his arrangement. This is a tune by Sigrid Moldestad (b. 1972), a Norwegian folk artist. She has based it on a warm and beautiful poem by Danish author Tove Ditlefsen. A text for and about love.Sigrid Moldestad won the "Spellemannsprisen" (the Norwegian equivalent to Grammy) in 2005 as a part of the group Gamaltnymalt. She won the price two years later, this time as solo artist for the record album Taus. Both times in the Folk Music category.So Take My Heart was released in 2012 as a part of the album Himlen har sove bort morkret.
