Judd: Silver Star

The title of this march, published in 1962, refers to the pin originally given to the mothers, but now also the fathers, of cadets entering The Salvation Army's Schools for Officer Training.It includes the song, 'Mothers of the Silver Star' (words by Arch. R Wiggins, music by George Marshall) which was specially written for the first occasion at which Silver Stars were presented. Also included is a Salvation Army flag song, 'Yellow star, and red and blue' also written by the aforementioned Wiggins and Marshall.

Built around Sidney Carter's song 'The Lord of the dance' and largely Celtic in style, Skydance seeks to describe the celebration, energy and exuberance that life in eternity will represent.

An arrangement, in big-band style, of the song 'I am so glad'.

Judd: Soldiers Of Christ

This march was the second of Marshalls marches to be published and contained the note Revised by the Editor, who at the time was Lt. Colonel Richard Slater. Marshall maintained correspondence with the Colonel as his composing skills developed although this early work already demonstrates melodic charm and effective scoring.

Judd: Someone Cares

In the mid-1960s, then captains John Larsson and John Gowans (both of whom were later to become Generals of The Salvation Army) combined to write the first in what became a string of Salvation Army musicals, entitled 'Take-over Bid'. This solo features perhaps the most memorable song from that first musical, now arranged as a beautiful slow melody

Judd: Song of Courage

Inspired by his own song 'A prayer for courage' (which forms the central movement of the Tone Poem) written on the eve of war in 1939, this is music that would merit close inspection by any band able to play it, whether Army or non-Army.
