Judd: Psalm of Thanks

The composer is a former member of Birmingham Citadel Band and was asked to compose this piece for the band's 115th anniversary reunion weekend. It is a joyful expression of thanks using the well-known tune, 'Now thank we all our God'.

Judd: Quest

'Quest' was originally written for the Territorial Youth Band (UK) in 2012. It is a major work in three movements, Movement 1: Making a difference, Movement 2: Making time and Movement 3: Making progress. The music essentially charts the journey of the Christians life. The music commences with Ray Steadman-Allen's choral work and testimony 'So this is it! My day for living!' and has references and then a presentation to the tune 'Southport' associated with the words 'To serve the present age my calling to fufil'. The music displays the struggle of the Christian in maintaining a witness within this world. The second movement is a reflective and prayerful setting of the song 'This day' found in the Sing to the Lord journal. The imposing third movement features the tune 'Trust in God' with the associated words 'As the weary way of life we journey'. The piece has been recorded by the International Staff Band under the same title (SPS330)

Judd: Quintessence

Originally written for the Melbourne Staff Band's tour of the UK in 1978 and, more specifically, their participation in The Salvation Army International Congress in London, the music expresses the quintessence of Australian Salvationism.

Judd: Reflections in Nature

Based on the popular song 'When Jesus looked o'er Galilee', and featuring the beautiful tune 'Fewster,' Robert Redhead recreates the beauty and majesty of the shores of Galilee in Biblical days.

Judd: Rejoice The Lord is King

The title of this work comes from the first line of Charles Wesley's hymn 'Rejoice, the Lord is King! Your Lord and King adore' which is set to Handel's majestic tune, Gopsal. The Handelian influence shows in more than the use of the tune itself as the opening pays homage to the Coronation Anthem 'Zadok the Priest' after which the free variations flow in quick succession. This major work was written for The International Staff Band which gave the first performance at the Epic Brass Gala Concert which followed the 2001 National Brass Band Championships.

Judd: Renaissance

A sequel to the much celebrated 'Shine as the light', Peter Graham felt the dawning of a new millennium was an appropriate back-drop against which to feature Joy Webb's song 'Come into our world', with its plea for revival or Renaissance in the form of Christ's promised return.

Judd: Rhapsody for Cornet & Band

This is a lyrical solo based on the carol 'A Christmas Lullaby'.

Judd: Rhapsody on a theme by Purcell

The theme is the rondo refrain from 'Abdelazer' famously used by Benjamin Britten in his 'The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra'. The composer, while keeping a spirit of fun, pays subtle tribute to both Purcell and Britten in this set of linked variations.

Judd: Romans 8

Based on the eighth chapter of Romans, this music was composed as a companion to a series of bible studies at the 1985 British National School of Music. The tunes of four songs are presented, each supporting the ideas of the chapter; 'This joyful Eastertide' 'We are born of the Spirit' 'Lord of all hopefulness' and 'In the Cross of Christ I glory'
